Monster under the bed giving script errors. (more)

Post by indignantgirl » August 4th, 2019, 5:49 am

I'm getting a script error every time my sim child checks under the bed for monsters, but only when he actually sees a monster. I'll see smoke, claws, etc, and then the kid disappears and is reset outside the front door. Which is too bad because he has the coward trait and I wanted to see what happened when he actually met the monster. Even his reaction to the self-cleaning toilet is great. XD

I didn't have errors with my other child (same lot, same room, same boat bed, but much earlier in the save). I didn't have any mods installed back then. I now have a handful of nraas mods, but I did get a different mod recently, "no crappy bunk beds" from mod the sims. I'm not actually using a bunk bed in this save, so I got rid of that mod, deleted the 5 cache files, reset the lot (twice) and deleted the beds and purchased new ones. Still having the same problem.

Here's the file. Does anything stand out? I tried to glean something from it but I have no idea. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B79ROi ... sp=sharing

Thanks for your time! I really want this kid to see the monster. :)

ETA: He just went and checked under his foster dad's full-size bed and saw the monster without being reset. So I guess it's something to do with the twin boat bed specifically? Even though I deleted it and bought a whole new one? Could it be that something from the "crappy bunk bed" mod that is still lingering around even though I deleted it and did all the things?

That bed has a solid base so there's no room for the monster to be able to appear or in other words there is no way to actually be able to check under the bed.

No that mod doesn't touch anything related to the monster. I use a similar mod all it does is change the buffs related to sleeping since EA used the exact same tuning for all bunk and loft beds making them all give the same buffs as a cheap bed despite how expensive or cheap they are.

I don't think it's this boat bed specifically. My previous child was always able to check under this bed and see a monster, and I was just able to finally get my current child to successfully check under his boat bed, see a monster, and not get reset. He ran away, fainted, got the moodlet, and then wouldn't get back in bed for a while.

I was pretty excited, thinking it was magically fixed. But I should have known that nothing gets magically fixed. Immediately after, I started troubleshooting another issue, I reset the town and cleared my caches, and it broke again.BOTH beds (full size and boat) are kicking him out and giving me the script error again.

BUT. And this is the thing. The monster animation is still going. It's been like, a full sim hour and the smoke and arms are still moving around out from under the bed, and the monster sounds are playing. I had my other child check that bed for monsters and they didn't see it, so something is definitely up. I've been searching but I haven't seen anyone talking about this one.

I'd upload the new Error Trap file but it's pretty much the same as the previous one. But I'm glad it's not the bunk bed thing at least!

Probably should've quit while you where ahead. I've never had the Check Under the Bed interaction work with the boat bed. But I would start searching through your other mods.
Try reverting to a previous Save from before the monster animation got stuck.
If that doesn't help try retreating to Edit Town and evict the family and replace the house.

I didn't know I was ahead at the time, or believe me, I would have quit. I thought I was "on a roll." XD All I needed was to get a couple of hairstyles from TS3 store to show up in CAS and then I would be done with the troubleshooting portion of my gaming time.

So, I'm very fortunate. I was using Saver and have a save from earlier today. I caught the kid before he walked in the room and checked for monsters. I diverted him away from the boat beds, but he insisted on checking the OTHER bed instead. Luckily there were no monsters. I have a few older saves that I might go back to and see if I can find one where the monster thing still works. Either that or I need to find a way to disable it completely. The kid won't stop looking under beds.

I think I will take your advice and try replacing the house, since I made a copy of the lot after I developed it (I was placing it in another town). Thank you for the suggestion.

I've seen the error before and never was able to pin down what exactly causes it besides it seems related to the bed's effects slot being missing or in an odd state. Does resetting the lot get rid of the run away effects? Does buying a new bed fix the problem? Perhaps resetting breaks them since you noted both beds were busted after.

Thank you for the input. It's strangely comforting that at least somebody has seen it before.

Resetting the lot didn't fix it and neither did deleting the beds and purchasing new ones. All 3 new beds (2 boat beds, one full size bed) on the same lot had the same error upon the monster actually being there.

But hey, now that I think about it, this didn't start until after I reset the whole town for the first time (I think it was last week). Then after some troubleshooting yesterday it seemed fixed until I reset the town again last night. Mayhaps the monster doesn't care for being reset.

Is there a tuning that could just stop the monster from spawning altogether (like with zombies, for instance)? That way at least the monster won't get stuck flailing and growling and smoking indefinitely.

Doesn't seem like anyone made a mod to stop the monster from spawning. Until now anyway.

That may be it. I'll make a note to try that out.

Alternative to the tuning mod above, you can use Retuner. I believe the path would be Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.Beds \ CheckForMonsters \ kMonsterUnderBedChance = 0

Thanks, all! I already had Retuner installed so I used that. I always get the distinct impression that I've only scratched the surface of what Retuner can do. It makes me feel incredibly powerful, until I remember that I pretty much only know how to use it to get rid of zombies and alien abductions. And now bed-monsters.
