Now What! -sigh- a Pregnant Elder???

Post by JohnL83 » July 12th, 2019, 5:17 pm

How did my elder male sim get preggers? IDK? How did he? All I know is I saw a floating head walking around and I was like WTF, dude, are you pregnant? It was odd enough because I have pregnancy clothing for males, but then I realized he was an elder and of course there are no elder pregnancy clothes. So nearly 22 sim-days into his 200-day elder life-cycle and Freddy Winchester is pregnant, I was at least happy to see it was by his husband. (also my pregnancies last 7 sim-days, so there's no way he got that way before aging up) Anyway, no problem I ended it abruptly, I did hesitate and thought maybe this could be an interesting storyline, but alas I didn't want this kid to lose his parents of old age while still a child! Besides, Dean and Freddy have 3 grown kids with kids of their own so they need to spend their elder years being grandpa's.

So my question here is, "How did this happen?" Are we dealing with a one time glitch or is something else afoot?

First: I have my SP settings set so that no adults who are within 50 days of their elder status can get pregnant. My life cycles reflect the idea that sims will at least be YA when they lose their parents from old age. So this is another reason why this isn't a case of he got pregnant before he aged up.

Second: Sims are not supposed to be able to get pregnant on their own in my games, namely via WooHooer. Yes I have auto woohoo for all sims of age, but no risky woohoos or pregnancies should be occurring without direction by me. though I do allow SP to play in this arena just a bit, but my population is 4 sims over it's max and only 1 elder is close to passing away.

Third: I went through many of my settings to see what may be conflicting and I didn't see anything out of sorts. So if someone could please help me with this, or assure me it's just a one time glitch, or maybe give me an idea of what settings I may have missed checking, it would be VERY much appreciated.

First of all, sims cannot age up while they are pregnant. So although you have already accounted for the fact that the sim couldn't have gotten pregnant while an Adult and then aged up, that would not have been possible anyway. I have an inactive teen in one of my games who is pregnant and with a seven day pregnancy is now four days overdue to age-up; he's not really age stuck and I am certain his birthday will happen as soon as the baby/babies are born. Not really sure how he got pregnant so close to the end of his teen cycle, but I don't remember if I had aging for Not Actives on at the time of that conception or what his age actually was at the time. It may have been a close call or something.

SP can push pregnancies onto inactives without the physcial woohooing taking place. Thus the settings I would be looking for would be, on City Hall or an in-game computer, NRaas > SP > Caste Options > Elders > Pregnancy: Allow Can Be Pregnant (etc.). If nothing seems out of whack there, then look for the same settings on the sim in particular under SP > Sim Options to see if explicit exceptions have been set on him for any reason.

Igazor, I have not checked those other settings just yet, (and I will do, thanks!) but I can't imagine I did a caste thing on him since I almost never use the Caste system. I only remember doing one or two castes and one I do remember was set so that elders wont flirt with YA Sims autonomously...which I didn't really want to do, but if you remember I really hated the grandpa's flirting with their step grandkids so I put a stop to that! Oddly enough I've not had them try to flirt with their adult step-grandkids and I have no idea why, but I'm grateful.

Something did occur to me though, is it possible for a sim to age up if a pregnancy is paused? And then have it "un-pause" somehow? I don't think this is actually the case here, but I do remember a while ago when I paused a male pregnancy in one of my games/towns. As I've stated I play 6 different towns/games at random so I lose track sometimes. So I'm thinking it may be possible that I'd paused this sims pregnancy and forgot to ever 'un-pause'. I don't remember which game, but there's that itch at the back of my brain telling me I indeed forgot something and maybe that was it. Though starting up 6 different games and waiting for each to load and check the population would be quite daunting. I don't even remember if a paused pregnancy even shows up as a pregnant sim? Do you know?

As far as I know, old men can be fathers if they have made a child with a young or adult woman. But I don't know what happened in your game after activating male pregnancy. By the way, a long time ago I saw a post that one player had a pregnant elderly woman. If I remember correctly, she did it without mods, it seems player accidentally found this loophole.

JohnL83 A pregnancy that is paused is still a pregnancy, and no a sim who is pregnant cannot age up. The age up spin would be harmful to the unborn child. Okay, that's not really the reason but I'm pretty sure this is blocked by the game core because a pregnant sim is considered to be in some sort of transition phase. That's why pregnant sims cannot travel either, but thankfully Traveler unlocks that one for us.

So if you have a sim who is pregnant and you pause the pregnancy for 45 sim days while their aging is on, they will age 45 days but never out of their current (at the time of conception) age stage.

Igazor - Okay, so I did check the SP settings you suggested and YEP! for some reason elders were set to "true" to be pregnant. I have no idea how this occurred and I certainly never set it as such, but there it was and I was a bit incredulous. Anyway, while under that caste I did make sure at the top it said "Elders" because the list looked exactly as it does in the general options and I was worried that I may turn off pregnancies for all age sims. Then I even went to see about YA and A sims in caste and all seemed well...in that It didn't say true or false under their "can be pregnant" castes, but I'm assuming that's fine since I never set up a caste for pregnancies anyway and sims are getting pregnant. Thank you for your help and I did assume a paused pregnancy was still a pregnancy, but I wanted to be sure.

This was a same-sex relationship and both men are elders, yes I know that there's no age limit in Sims as in RL for men to be fathers. But certainly there is and age limit for anyone to have a baby.

But that reminds me of a story I saw on the news where a post menopausal woman carried her daughters baby to full term. It was a really cool story; the daughter had cancer and had to have a hysterectomy, but before they did this they saved her eggs, they then fertilized the eggs with the girls husband and used her mother as the incubator. She carried their baby for them and it was such a cool thing! How amazing to be able to birth your own grandchild and what I gift she was able to give her daughter and son-in-law!

Glad to hear there was a reasonable explanation for what happened. The National Enquirer reporters and paparazzi can all go home now, there's nothing to see here. :)
