A sudden explosion of unhandled errors

Post by Elf_Apologist » June 4th, 2019, 1:49 pm

Hello! I'm playing my Sims 3 game right now, and all of a sudden I got a notification of 900+ reports from ErrorTrap. This perplexed me, so I opened up the xml to take a look (with the old ErrorTrap Reading Logs page in a browser tab) and found a whole mess of things I didn't understand. The Reading Logs page says to post logs that contain the word "UNHANDLED," and that definitely pops up at least a few times.

Really, I just want to know if this is anything serious and/or if there are any actions I should take to fix/address things. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance--I'm a long-time appreciator of NRaas Industries and the mods :)

(I hope this is all right; I tried following the procedure on the How to Upload page, but it wouldn't stop Processing...)

A sudden explosion of unhandled errors

After reading through some past topics in ErrorTrap Discussion, I've learned that dereferencing logs are apparently rather insignificant and don't tell anybody anything useful. Good job on that first post, me. :|

Apologies for being a waste of space!

That is true generally, but let's see if our developer has any comments to make on that log when he has time to analyze it. It is rather a long one and keeps going on about dishes and plates of all things. Any other script logs to share while we're waiting or was that the extent of the questionable looking ones? ErrorTrap shouldn't be producing 900+ on-screen reports unless something is wrong or it's encountered something stubborn that keeps reappearing the instant it is "trapped."

That was the only log out of the ordinary—the others are all very small and about normal things like cleaning up FailureObjects on load or deleting old homework.

I appreciate you taking a look at it and confirming its relative oddness, at least! I can’t clearly recall ever seeing that many reports at once, and my other saved games are behaving just fine.

Potentially wrongheaded speculation: This particular save has been making heavy use of icarus_allsorts’ Cook With Any Ingredient mod and the Canning Station from the Store (with the overhaul by Butterbot, of course). Specifically, before this errorsplosion, my sims had been making lots of brownies and cookies (normally made by children with the toy oven) and turning them into rations. Could this have something to do with it?

...is the call coming from inside the stove?

I have both of those mods in play and in fact was a beta tester for Butterbot's Canning Overhaul mod. Can't say that I focused on one kind of ration over another as long as they all worked. I think I noted a total of two that were flawed by the time I got through my tests and those were fixed up right away prior to release.

Children's oven products as rations is not ringing a bell at all, I don't even remember those being on the list of things to test. But it was quite a while ago, I'll have to dig up my notes when I can and see if this was even on our radar back then.

I actually checked out and then added both those mods to my game because you had mentioned them at some point (I was a lurking guest for, uh, a while before registering a couple days ago). My fiance and I enjoyed reading the mod-testing blog. :)

I'd just remembered that the deref log seemed to be awfully angry about jam jars and ChildPlates (though now that I'm taking a proper look at it again, it seems to be having issues with bowls/plates in general, plus a tangent about someone getting arrested), and the frequent use of the Canning Station is the only thing I can think of that's different about this save, so I thought I'd mention it.

I wondered just now if the fact that I'm storing the rations in a WA chest (winter is coming!) could be a problem, but a couple of quick Google searches seem to say "probably not."

So it does look like the canning station is leaving data junk behind. I'm not aware if this is due to the changes made by the mod you're using or it's EA. Unfortunately because the code for it never got merged in the core there's not a lot I can easily do about it. I wouldn't worry too much unless you're using it thousands of times in which case it might be an issue.

By the way dereferencing logs are not useless. If they are being generated they are usually important.

The call is coming from inside the jam jar!!

Thank you both for alleviating my concerns—I will endeavor to tone down the ration-making in that save to a more reasonable level. I was preserving ALL the food my sims made (and they made food whenever anyone was hungry), because I was excited by the idea of the household having to survive off rations during the wintertime. They probably don’t need 8675309 plates of spaghetti to get them through the season, even if it is 28 sim-days long.

And I must have misunderstood the stuff I was reading about deref logs :P Good to know I didn’t do the ErrorTrap equivalent of uploading a crash dump log or something.
