Baby Gender

The chance of gender is set at conception, which can then be changed or not as the pregnancy progresses, the gender is not set until birth. But if exactly the same conditions are in place prior to the baby being born, I'm pretty sure quitting and replaying the birth will yield the same results as the first time. That's only for the first born if there is to be a multiple birth, for a second twin, second and third triplet, etc., I believe those genders will always be random and may possibly vary with replays.

If you decidedly want a baby of a specific gender, then either MC or CmarNYC's Pregnancy Controller mod can be used prior to birth.

And I do have both mods installed so I'm all set, thanks!

I just wish there was a mod that 'rolls the dice' at birth; reminiscent of Sims 2. It feels very cheat-y to change it myself. LOL xD

I guess it depends on whether we see ourselves as gods or merely guiding helpers to our sims. I don't think the former have a set of rules to follow kind of by definition, so there is no such thing as "cheating."

But I know what you mean. One Generation 2 couple in my game had 12 kids. The adoptees, one science center clone, and all of the progressed pregnancies where I had the pregnant parent on a diet of apples were boys. All but one, the one that got away from me was where they got pregnant while visiting one of the older grown kid's household in a different world as they were at that time foreign visitors not controlled by me. When I caught up with them back in their homeworld, the pregnancy has already resolved itself into a child. So the results in the end -- 11 boys and 1 girl.

I considered altering the child's gender before ever playing her, but couldn't bring myself to do so. To me, that seemed like cheating. But then I was faced with having to figure out sleeping arrangements in a huge household where things like this were already well-established, she couldn't very well stay in the nursery and then "graduate" to one of the kids' rooms along with her brothers none of whom had bedrooms of their own until they were much older as that just didn't seem right. All part of the fun of the game, of course. :)

Littlelambsy, IDK if you already know this or not, but if you click a pregnant sim and use MC>relationship it will show you stats on the baby as well. No matter how far along they may be. I've done this right after hearing the baby music and it will tell you the gender, chance of it being twins, the other parent, etc. The only thing it does not do is tell you for sure is if there will be more than one baby, though if you have a high percentage of twins or triplets it's likely to be multiple.

Thanks JohnL83, I have checked the stats on pregnant sims with MC and I know it gives the twin percentage, who the father is and how far along the pregnancy is, but it doesn't say the gender. It use to a long time ago but for some reason that info doesn't show up anymore. The only way I can tell what the gender is, is by having a doctor determine the gender. I have a mod that stops the chimes when a sim gets pregnant.... I like to be surprised :)

I've seen on more than one occasion that isn't always right. I've had sims have baby boys when MC said the baby was a girl and vise versa the game doesn't set the gender until just a few minutes before the birth although MC usually has it right.

That's strange, it shows up for me every time. IDK why it does not for you. Perhaps you need to reload the mods or maybe something else has made that stat vanish?

Sittingbear- So far it has not been wrong for me (at least that I'm aware) the only time it's different is if I did something to make it so.

If you have the gender chance "set to random" then it won't show what the gender is going to be (unless they've found out from a doctor).

Right, because in that case the gender has not been determined or influenced heavily enough so MC doesn't have any data to work with to make a prediction. Strange as it may seem, getting the report from a doctor actually influences the outcome from that point forward.

As for liking surprises, yeah it's always nice to get up in the morning and suddenly find a basket full of crying something or others on the doorstep next to the newspaper demanding to be fed, cuddled, and eventually either be trained to hunt or sent to Uni depending on the species. Maybe not every day, though.:-o

I do have the setting set to Random, so that explains why it doesn't show. But I'm ok with that because, as I mentioned, I like surprises. Before, when the gender did show, I always had to make sure I didn't see that info when checking the progress of the pregnancy.

Talking about things left on the doorstep, I turned off strays because I would always get stray dogs and cats that constantly decided to come and die on my doorstep! The grim reaper was very familiar with my sims house and would often make himself at home and watch tv. I also got tired of the annoying meowing and barking, and stray horses ending up in my living room! I would love to have strays now, but remember the problems and avoid the urge. Plus, why do all the strays have to be Elderly with one foot in the grave???
