Fridges lose contents...

Post by iCad » May 27th, 2019, 10:57 pm

I've set up Story Progression to play households in rotation in a world, and it's been working great. I have one small problem, though: When I switch to a new household, the household I had been playing loses the contents of their fridge. Which kinda sucks because I'm playing a self-sufficient farming community, so one of the whole points is stockpiling food to be used throughout the year. (Which is long, with the way I have the seasons set up; there's a long stretch of time when stuff can't be grown.) I've Googled around a bit and I've seen it said that SP causes this, which makes sense, but nothing about whether or not the issue is fixable. So my question is: Is it fixable? Is there some way that I can make it so that fridge contents are retained between households, either in SP or using other mods in conjunction with it? I know I can keep stuff in inventories -- That's what I do know, and I'll keep doing it if I have to -- but that's kind of a pain for various reasons in this scenario. So....just thought I'd ask here. :)

It actually should be the reverse. SP is supposed to be protecting the contents of the fridges when a household goes inactive and becomes active again, not emptying them out. The underlying issue is that under EA standard, the fridges are not protected and they either empty out or large amounts of random food that your sims never grew or purchased get inserted into them -- this is the built-in function by which newly started or moved into households get what is supposed to be a small amount of groceries provided in a new fridge to get things started but it tends to go haywire when switching active households so SP puts a stop to it.

In any event, I switch actives all the time as do other players here and this never happens. Do you have SP's form of progression active when doing these things? (NRaas > SP > General Options > Allow Progression > True)? I don't think it should be necessary just for this, but do you also have Overwatch in play? And does the same thing or anything different happen if you try a test run with only NRaas mods in play, script caches cleared, to see if some other mod you may be using is interfering with SP in this regard?

Hmmmmm, iiiiiinteresting.... :)

I wonder why it's doing this, then. Perhaps I clicked a setting that I shouldn't have when I was poking at things? In any case, SP's progression is definitely enabled and active and I have most of its "plug-in" modules. I've set up the caste for the rotation households per the FAQ here (using your settings), but beyond that most things are at default settings. I do have Overwatch installed; it's just running on default settings. I have Ani's "No Fridge Shopping" mod and several "packs" of mods that add custom recipes and ingredients and such, as well as the EA store stuff that added new ingredients. I had this issue before I went wild and added all the custom ingredients stuff, though.

I'll take out everything but NRAAS mods and do a test save and see what happens. That'll be a project for tomorrow. I'll report back what I find. :) Thank you for the info!

When you do return to this issue, the first mod to try pulling out is Ani's (and also check to see if you have the most recent version of that one from this site, not from MTS). I doubt that custom or EA store recipes and foods would be causing this unless you have multiple or outdated versions of the Ingredients Overhaul mod in play -- Cinderellimouse's version is the updated and current one, AnakPonti and BlackCat's versions shouldn't be in play together with that one, nor at all on current patch levels. A check of any mods from icarus_allsorts to make sure those are the most current versions would also be in order.

There had been talk about Ani's mod not playing well together with icarus' Cook With Any Ingredient mod in case you have both of those. Icarus' mod has something very similar to that function included with it, so I stopped using Ani's fridge mod myself many years ago.

Well, it turns out the culprit was a "Dining Overhaul" mod that I didn't even know that I had and that may or may not be outdated. :) Or I probably did know I had it at some point -- I've had TS3 since it came out but only play it occasionally, in semi-obsessive spurts before I go back to my beloved TS2 -- but I forgot about it, and then I added in a couple of conflicting mods, it seems. Ooops. But without that mod in, fridge contents are preserved and everything appears to be fine. For the record, I do have the version of Ani's mod that's here, not the one at MTS, and the most-recent/updated versions of the new ingredients mods. I don't have icarus's "Cook With Any Ingredient" but do have their "Make Nectar with Any Ingredient" mod. Everything is now playing well together. So, false alarm, I guess. :)

But since I'm here, I wanted to say thank you, igazor, for all the good you do in this community. I see you pretty much everywhere TS3 is discussed, and you're always giving patient and detailed help and explanations to people. Thank you, so much, for that. I just wonder when you sleep, since you seem to be everywhere, all the time. Do you have an army of clones, perhaps? ;)

I wouldn't have thought that a mod intended to change the number of bites/time alotted to consume a meal would have such an impact, but it depends on how it was done. It can be surprising where conflict issues can show up. Anyway, the intended effects of that mod are also reachable by Retuner without all the overhead if you can find the correct values to adjust.

Thanks for the kind words, but I do not have a presence everywhere the game is discussed. Just perhaps in the specific places you are looking. It has been conjectured by those who do not and have no need to understand my work/sleep schedule that I am really a crowd of people sharing a screen name, but that's nonsense and I think the same kind of thing was said about Twallan, our founder, many years ago. :)

That it was that mod surprised me, too. It turned out that I had (and had also forgotten about) Delphy's Dashboard for checking for mod conflicts, so I decided to run that first when I sat down to troubleshoot. I saw that Dining Overhaul was conflicting with another mod -- one that shortens cooking/eating time, so yeah, conflict -- and, because I didn't know what Dining Overhaul was doing since I didn't remember having it, I thought I'd take that out first and see if it fixed anything. And, surprisingly, it did. At a guess, I'd say that the faster cooking one has its fingers in fridges and stoves and suchlike, and the conflict between the two mods was messing things up. But that's only a guess; I'm not as familiar with how TS3 mods work as I am with how TS2 ones work. Maybe it's just that Dining Overhaul was out of date; I've no idea how long I've had it, but it's redundant anyway, so...yeah. In any event, everything else that I have -- which isn't a whole lot, all told -- seems to be getting along well now.

And yeah, I'm sure you seem like multiple people because I've been reading a lot of help forums when I've had questions or run across issues with this game, so off to Google I go. And I've been reading lots of older posts in various places -- here, MTS, the EA forum -- so you probably seem more omnipresent to me than you really are. :) But I've learned a lot from the things you've posted so...Yup, thanks. :)
