Plate of Food Issues

Post by Paisley17 » May 27th, 2019, 10:46 pm

Yesterday I had no issues with moving a plate of food from a counter to my Sim's inventory, but for some reason today the hand has now turned into an arrow with a gear. I have had this issue in the past and it seems to come and go which makes me wonder if it's a glitch. I always use the same mods so I thought that might be the cause but I pulled everything that I might have added and thought would conflict anyways to see if it would help, it didn't. This issue seems to come and go so I have found removing all mods and adding them back gradually in a new game to not be very helpful in this case.

Is there an easier way to put something into a Sim's personal inventory? All I want to do is move plates of food to their personal inventory so I can move them into either Ani's Produce Stand or on one of her shelves.
TIA

Plate of Food Issues

I am still fiddling around with this...
- I tried switching to another Sim and while having her selected I was unable to move the plate of food.
- I sent her to her home lot where she made a plate of pancakes and that dish was able to easily be moved over to her inventory.
- The dish that will not budge was created using the teppanyaki grill.

It looks like the dishes created with teppanyaki grill do not have the hand move option. Anyone else having this issue and is there a workaround for it?

You could try clicking on the plate of food to see if the user command Place Into Inventory appears, but I predict it will not. I don't think this is an issue with the Teppanyaki Grill in particular, I think that plates of prepared food created on community lots cannot always be worked with that way. If we look at the store Bakery set for example, with or without the Cupcake mod in play if the bakery displays and racks are to be loaded and unloaded manually, then I believe that must be done by way of setting them down someplace and using Build/Buy Mode, not by using sims' inventories as that never works.

As long as I've mentioned it, if you have the Bakery set and you add the Cupcake mod, have you thought of using that to sell the prepared Teppanyaki dishes? The mod lets us sell just about any prepared food items that way.

Well, that makes sense and now that you mention it that's how I moved plates in the past. I have spent the last couple hours trying to see which large appliances would allow me to move a plate on a community lot and no matter if I used the Bakery Oven, the Teppanyaki Grill or a standard base game oven I just cannot move a plate of food. I used the same objects on a home lot with no problems at all moving the dishes.

I have temporarily removed all of my food related Mods from my game since starting this world (re-evaluating which ones I really want and need in my game) and plan on gradually adding them back as soon as I get everything setup. I removed the Cupcake Mod a while back because it conflicted with another Mod I was using, I cannot remember which one off the top of my head. I just stuck with the one I was already using but, that would be great if I could sell prepared meals.

It has been a frustrating couple of hours. Thank you for helping me sort this all out!

I don't use the Teppanyaki grill on community lots very often, but I do have Cupcake mod enhanced bakery displays all over the place selling pizzas from the woodfire oven and other prepared dishes like sandwiches, deli platters (okay, really salads), all day breakfasts, etc. in addition to baked goods. Whether I make my own sims prepare these things or use the mod to auto-generate them depends on who owns the lot, whether "my" sims are running the place or as is more common just customers.

Running a business that sells hand-prepared food in TS3 is a royal pain no matter how it's done. The work is difficult and never-ending and profit margins are very slim even if you grow your own ingredients, there always seems to be too much waste at the end of the day or not enough product to sell. The produce stand method doesn't generate waste, but isn't as pretty to look at as the others. The real money to made while trying to run such an enterprise is with the real estate investment, not the daily product sales. There may have been a lesson EA was trying to teach us there, though all these years later I am still not quite sure what it was.

Anyway, good luck with your business. :)

Plate of Food Issues

I have tried to run a restaurant in the past and found it to be quite tedious, however, I still keep trying to make it work. He is currently employed and this is more of a side hustle for my amusement. Hopefully, with his day job and the income from his real estate, he will be able to stay afloat.

I have also been trying to find a way to justify my Teppanyaki Grill purchase and figured I would roll that into this scenario. It definitely was not worth the money I spent on it when it was released and wish someone could find a way to make it worth using. I tried to change it into another appliance using the Transmogrifier. I'm not sure if that's possible, but in my game, it created a few errors. I also tried to change the Bakery Set shelves into the Produce Stand using the Transmogrifier and seemed to work ok, just couldn't figure out how to get the plates of food into the inventory.
