The malfunction with clothes

Post by Sara_Darkees » May 22nd, 2019, 9:15 pm

Can anyone tell me from what hangover many sims in town have decided that shoes are an unnecessary attribute of clothing?! And do I have a chance to fix it in a couple of clicks? Of course, I can fix this problem in the stylist's room, but it will be too long a process.

I don't think this will fix it for existing Sims, but you can prevent it in the future by editing the barefoot shoe clothing items and disabling "Valid for Random". The process is the same as for recategorizing any EA clothing.

Once you've done that, you could use a computer or City Hall to do MC < Sim < Basic < Remove Outfit to quickly remove outfits from lots of Sims. The game will usually generate new outfits for missing categories, but I'd definitely recommend backing up your save first. Removing more than one outfit at a time does risk corrupting the Sim. I can say from personal experience that removing all outfits from a Sim will nearly always corrupt them beyond any ability to recover them (other then reloading a previous save).

As a bit of trivia, most of the premade Sims in Sunlit Tides are barefoot in their formalwear outfit. Maybe all your Sims saws that on TV and decided to pretend they were on vacation by going barefoot. :-)

Wow, now I have reason to worry, because I've done this many times before. Fortunately or unfortunately I prefer to play with the same characters rather than with generations. So I need to fix the current residents, not those who may appear in the future.

I wouldn't worry, because the problems I saw were always immediately visible. If you've been doing that and haven't seen problems, it's very likely that you didn't create any problems.

Some of what I was doing was using S3PE to try to remove the Special outfits from a Sim. That was never successful, but I did later test and confirm that using MC to remove all outfits from a Sim nearly always does very bad things. (There had been several discussions here about problems caused by corrupted Special outfits, and since MC can't remove those, I was trying to solve the problem in another way.)

The problems I ran into appear to be because outfits hold more data about a Sim than just the current outfit. It's been several months since I dealt with any of this, but I think they also contain the Sims' face data and maybe even their Traits. My memory isn't clear on that last point. The information seems to be stored in more than one outfit, so deleting one outfit usually doesn't cause a problem. Sometimes, however, deleting one outfit through S3PE would cause problems. Deleting two or three in S3PE would often cause problems. I didn't test much in MC, but I don't remember ever running into issues with MC unless I removed all outfits from a Sim.

And I can relate to playing the same Sims rather than playing multiple generations. I usually disable aging on my favorite Sims, and when I start a new game, it's nearly always with my favorite Sims who I've saved to the bin.

Well, in my case removing outfits is a necessary thing because some of them are generated several times for some reason. I mean, sims have normal everyday outfits, but in addition to them the game for some reason generates new ridiculous outfits, the same applies to career outfits. And I don't use s3pe for this, the MC's option has always been enough for me. What kind of special outfits are you talking about?

Special outfits are things like the costumes that kids can wear from the costume chest, or the ones they wear when pretending to drive on the couch or holding royal court. Mermaid outfits are special outfits too, I think. Pretty much any outfit that you can't edit easily or at all in Create-A-Sim or Stylist. However, most special outfits can be edited while they're being worn, unless the outfit is corrupt.

If a Sim has multiple outfits in the same category, such as three Everyday outfits, I don't think you'll have a problem if you delete two of them. You probably won't have a problem if you delete all three of them. If, however, you delete all the Everyday outfits and all of another category's outfits, you might create a problem. The more categories of outfits you delete completely, the more likely you'll have a problem.

Just to be clear, and so that I don't cause someone to ruin their game, outfits should not be deleted with S3PE. Doing so is likely to cause the Sim to become corrupted. It's not really worth it anyway, since you can't tell in S3PE what outfit you're deleting.

I don't know how to use s3pe to remove outfits anyway. However, I once saw some outfits (like a chemist's outfit or an outfit for a tattoo artist's room) included in already existing categories and I could remove them. By the way, this is strange, but in CAS shoes is displayed. Why? Apparently, now I have to watch the town and catch any sim who decided to take off shoes.

Do you mean that if you take a barefoot sim into CAS, he is wearing shoes? In that case resetting the sim might fix this. If you have many barefoot sims you could try resetting all sims.
