SP stories...made up sims?

Post by JohnL83 » May 21st, 2019, 11:03 pm

I have had SP and most of it's attachments for almost a year now, and in that time I've had my Sims read the paper many times. I often get announcements of Sims who've gotten married, had babies, etc. (it can be redundant if it's family or friends of my actives since I already get those notifications on purpose) Yes, some of the stories are Sims who don't really exist in my little towns, like the ones about actors visiting or someone winning a race...etc. And of course sometimes, if I have Sims with horses in town, I do get their names in the racing announcements if they win. Either way I like to have my Sim read the paper now and then to see what other sims may be up to that I don't have my actives following.
But up until recently I never had a marriage announcement of a couple who does not actually exist in my town. I looked and neither Sim the paper talked about was a resident and I couldn't find either person with those names anywhere. I know SP does some of it's own thing, and I'm assuming EA has something to do with this, especially when it comes to reading the paper? Anyway, I was wondering if SP does too? Or does SP only deal with the ones we get randomly throughout the game depending on what stories we have set to see? Does SP deal with newspaper announcements too and regardless, why have I never seen a made-up couple wedding announcement in any of my games before this? I'm really good at keeping up on who lives in my towns and often do searches when I hear of a new sim or two who's been added, yet these Sims were not in my town search at all.

Are you not aware that some sims have sought protection from the Sunset Valley (or whatever) Witness Protection Program? If you cannot find them, perhaps they were not meant to be found. :P

On a more serious note, is it possible these sims are in WA, Uni, Oasis, or other Traveler mod connected worlds?

LOL more like, Simness Protection Program? okay...lame...sorry.

I do get a few tourists, but my sims have not visited anywhere in a very long time, not in this particular game anyway. I think I only had my main house go to Uni back when they first arrived as YA. But none of the out-of-town sims in their friends panel have those names either. Perhaps they are service sims or extras? It did occur to me that I didn't look for those, I just did a MC sim view of all the residents and they don't exist in the town as locals living in any home. As far as I can remember any marriage announced in the paper has always been someone actually living in the town of any game I've played. Once one of my townies married a mixologist aka bartender who wasn't a resident at the time, (I don't have service or role sims as residents) but that was as close to non-resident sims I can remember reading about.

SP definitely isn't making up things but sometimes when the game creates temporary Sims for genetics these things happen. SP tries to stop it but unless it's immigration systems are creating the Sims, it can't stop EA's methods. The Sims in question are deleted after which explains why you can't find them.

Thank you sir, good to know! :)
I did find a new child sim in one of my households later that day. Apparently one of my gay couples decided to adopt. Oddly enough, his husband was preggers at the time, so that was strange, but no biggie. It was kind of cool, I actually new a couple IRL who couldn't get pregnant after trying for 10 years, decided to adopt a toddler and then she got pregnant a few months after they finalized the adoption! Life can even more more strange than fiction.

BTW: I'm still curious about one question I asked in my OP. I'm sure it got lost among the rest of the info. Does SP add any stories to the news-paper or does it strictly just do the "pop-up" stories in the upper right?

From my experience, SP works the following way: it pushes inactive residents (the ones you don't manage) to have trait-scoring activities autonomously.
  • If a townie has a high level in the chess skill, you might read in the newspaper that they won a chess contest (and similar skill-based announcements since they are mostly simulated and townies do not actually receive a trophy or anything; it's more for the storytelling than anything).
  • If SP pushed two townies to flirt and they eventually got married, you will read in the newspaper the wedding announcement (i.e "X and Y had an intimate wedding with family and friends.")
  • If SP (or yourself) pushed two townies to have a baby, you will see the birth announcement in the newspaper (i.e: "X and Y are the happy parents of the baby Z".)
Does it answer your question related to SP stories notification (pop-up stories) and how they relate to the newspaper news section?
