Memories

Does anyone play with Memories on? I've had it turned off for years but thought about trying it. I think I turned it off because it recorded every moment of their lives.... had a pee, sneezed, etc and it got annoying. Just want to hear others thoughts on this feature and if there's a way to tone it down. Also, does it cause any bloating problems? I guess I'm trying to achieve a family album of some kind that will go through the generations, like in sims 2.

I turned memories off a long time ago too.

I definitely remember reading somewhere that memories slow down load times. I also think I read that because of the way memories are stored, simply deleting them doesn't free up space or improve load times. As I recall, those two things were the main reason I turned them off. My single biggest frustration with this game is how long it takes to load up saves, so it was a no-brainer for me to disable them.

Though like you, I found the adding of memories for minor things annoying.

I'm not sure memories will work for creating a family album. I'm fairly certain memories are tied to a specific Sim and when a Sim dies, their memories are deleted, or at least become inaccessible. The game may keep them in case a dead Sim is returned to life.

Thanks, I thought they may cause a problem. I'll keep them turned off.

If you must have them enabled, use the tool here http://modthesims.info/d/446281/no-or-f ... -2014.html to create your own package with only the important one's enabled. Only a few shouldn't cause you that much grief but don't let it get carried away.

I actually like the scrapbook memory system up to a point and have been using it together with velocitygrass' mod that Chain linked to for years. Even with my custom package to allow only the life-changing event memories I want to see, not went to the store, found a rock, and sneezed in the park or whatever, it still gets carried away sometimes. For example, when a sim moves in both they and their five new housemates get unnecessary repeats of the same kinds of memories, so having them in play gives me one more thing to manage to keep the bloat down.

The family album thing I think really has to be arranged for with screenshots and external to the game.

I'll check out the link from Chain and look at outside options for albums. Wish EA had included sims 2 albums in sims 3.
