after I downloaded couple of nraas mods including story progression modules, it seems work clothes got randomized. Is there a feature like this in one of those mods?

Not that I'm aware of. They should be wearing the clothes their career level is assigned to. Not the case?

That's not SP doing that I suspect the game doing it. As the University Graduation robe is flagged for both Everyday and Career.

Does the career outfit they're supposed to have show up as Career Outfit #2? If so, you can delete the graduation robes via MC' Remove Outfit. If you ever want the robes back, there should be an option at dressers to Don Graduation Robes.

It does seem that something often generates Career outfits for Sims that don't yet have careers. It might be the MC version of Stylist, or it might be the base game. Those outfits are usually replaced when a Sim joins a career, but sometimes they aren't.

The lab coats that Sims wear when making potions are also considered Career outfits. I don't recall any specific incidents where that caused a problem for me, but I can imagine that it could cause problems if one of those lab coats became Career Outfit #1.

(All the above is based on plaything without NRaas Dresser.)
