Worlds

Ok, I've spent a lot of time building up worlds and getting them ready to play. Then had to abandon the world and start with another LOL
Just wondering what worlds most people play in, is it custom or EA worlds? Which are the most popular?

I love Riverview and got it just the way I liked it without bleeds (not an easy task). Moved my sims in and started playing. It wasn't long before almost every time I tried to save, I got the Error 12. I got so frustrated with this, I had to abandon the world. :(

Then I built up Amesbury Pointe and moved in my sims. Next I find the world is broken and my sims are ending up in all kinds of weird places.

I tried Cladbridge on Stowe and loved it, but the routing issues made me crazy and had to leave it.

Now I'm almost finished building up Elthams Drift..... hopefully that will work.

I'm trying to avoid the very large worlds, I can never find my sims, they're all over the map! I prefer smaller/med worlds. So I just thought I'd ask what worlds most people play in.

I use custom worlds for testing at times, but all of the Traveler mod connected worlds in my long-running game are EA's. Some may find them boring and others' experiences may vary, but I've never had any serious issues with Riverview, Twinbrook, Hidden Springs, Monte Vista, or Sunlit Tides. Although more of a theme world, Dragon Valley is also one of my favorites as it was put together very well and I find the pre-made sims much more interesting than many of the others. Isla Paradiso and Bridgeport are also fun in their own ways, but of course they need fixing up first as has been discussed on so many TS3 forums.

Thanks igazor, I'm leaning toward sticking with EA worlds. I do have the fixed versions of them all.... or most of them. Even though I've spent time, then had problems with worlds I've built up, I actually enjoy making over worlds to the way I want them. But, I do want to find that one permanent home base world. Thanks for your response.

My favorites have always been Hidden Springs, Dragon Valley, and Appaloosa Plains, but I'm currently doing a Random Town Jump game with a story. I started out in Sunset Valley and am currently in Appaloosa Plains, my 7th town. Incorporating original town genetics into my Journey family has been an eye opener! My Frio family (descendants of founders Claire Ursine and Jared Frio) picked up Fairy genetics, a gift from Sophie Rodgers in Moonlight Falls, their 2nd town and it's still going strong in gen 7. Other unique hair colors and personality traits (which are random) have been added through each town. I'm loving getting to experience each of the towns and getting to know the town as well as the residents better. I would suggest playing short games in each world to get the feel of each town and maybe try a town jump game to experience each one until you find one that fits you as your home base world.

Sounds interesting. I thought about having a sim travel to different worlds through a portal and making the destination random with the roll of a dice or through abduction. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I read somewhere you can increase the paging file size and that may help with error 12. Someone here may be able to tell you if that's a good idea. I've also been having those issues in my large interconnected world. I also have lots of books, harvestables and collectables in this world which is probably compounding the issue. I've been using saver set to one hour and try to limit my sessions to three hours at the the most without quitting and restarting the game. I hope you have more luck.

Thanks LBillusion, The error 12's would result especially after going into CAS. I'm OCD when it comes to townies wearing such ridiculous outfits or men with those stupid pigtails and ribbons. I just have to "fix" them. I'm not constantly in CAS but the amount of time I spend fixing sims is no different than in other worlds I play, yet Riverview seems to throw those errors at me more than any other.

I prefer EA worlds. Most of the towns I've only seen in pictures, but in the end, my choice fell on Midnight and Dragon Valley from the store. I really like the old-fashioned architecture, in addition, in these towns live pretty cute characters. I also played Riverview and Twinbrook for a long time. I liked these towns for their stability and implicit mystical atmosphere. I remember at one time I tried to find all the graves in Twinbrook that were scattered all over the world... Ah yes, despite my love of stability, which has kept me playing the same characters for years, I've never seen men with pigtails. Maybe I need a very dynamic demographics to see this? And I'd like to know if igazor was able to fix the Bridport. I'd like to try to live in such a town. Maybe it's not that hopeless and I should try to fix something...

Bridgeport can be fussy and one has to have patience with the sims who keep getting stuck in elevators throughout the day, but I find it to be very playable if one can withstand that and the occasional sim showing up on the edge of the map, up in the mountains, or stuck in some such place where they cannot route out of. Sims around town will also frequently be late for work. Not sure if that's a routing issue or if they are just not very punctual in general. For fixing the world...well, not really fixing but improving things:

-- Use Ellacharmed's fixed underlying world file to get rid of broken spots on the world map.

-- Use the current version of GoHere to disallow boat routing, it just doesn't work correctly in this world. If sims want to go to the beach, they can take the subway.

-- Remove at least a few of the LN highrise shell venues (bars, clubs) as there are far too many in the downtown area. So as not to disturb the pretty skyline, in each case I replaced them with a highrise LN apartment building or another career building shell, others might be happy with just fewer highrises.

-- This one is tricky. Pass through each of the highrise residential building shells and edit them in Build/Buy to replace the hidden room markers on ground floor levels with public room markers, then replace the doors to those areas with regular ones so the game no longer sees them as NPC Doors. Hidden NPC only units on upper levels are fine (for me), but the ground floor ones are where I was frequently seeing resident sims instantiating when coming out of hibernation and they kept getting stuck in there. I do not see this happen on the upper floors. There are some who say that the residents should all be living in ground floor units in these buildings and, while that would certainly decrease elevator usage and the resulting sims stuck in them so frequently, I'm not prepared to do that. Nor am I prepared to replace all of the highrise residential shells with walk-ups, but a few of those that lack elevators entirely can be nice too.

Hmm, I have never tried a custom world, nor is it likely that I ever will with all the EA ones to choose from. That said, I do avoid some of EA's because of routing issues - Bridgeport, Isla Paradiso come to mind. Some of the store worlds have some odd routing issues when it comes to public mirrors. Lunar Lakes is one such world, but I believe Monte Vista has the same issue.

Currently, I'm playing in Moonlight Falls and Lucky Palms. I like Barnacle Bay as well. Haven't heard of any routing problems in BB, but I'm no expert on the matter.
