Progression denied

Post by Nindigo » May 1st, 2019, 4:42 am

Hello. My newly wed same-sex couple is denied 'try for baby'. I've checked that other settings do allow for this (woohooer mod), so I'm left very confused. Lifespan is set to long. I'd be grateful for any help troubleshooting this.

I found a setting in Woohooer->General that was responsible: Check Story Progression For User-Directed

The link to StoryProgression requires explicit SP caste support for the romantic, flirt, and pregnancy related interactions. Even when all of that checks out, many of us find it doesn't work correctly anyway. In this case though, I would check very carefully that SP is allowing same gender pregnancies on the two gender castes. If disallowed on the SP end, you may find that the resulting pregnancies form but then terminate a short while later.

When breaking the link between the two mods, I do the complete option and not just user-directed so inactive sims living their own lives are not also subjected to unwanted restrictions.

Yeah, it turned out not to work out anyway. The jingle (indicating success) played after the couple tried for baby, but nothing further happened except the Sims rolled the usual wishes to go to the spa. Pollination didn't work this time either, though it has before in another save of mine - only the poor pregnant guy was reduced to a set of feet and a floating head both times he was expecting.

In the end, I decided to use the engineering feature of ITF as I usually do. I admit that the full workings of SP go over my head.

Those are two different issues if you wish to revisit them,

If the sims are males, then on City Hall or an in-game computer,
NRaas > SP > Caste Options > Males > Pregnancy: Allow Can Be Pregnant > True (this would be False for males by default)
NRaas > SP > Caste Options > Males > Pregnancy: Allow Can Be Pregnant Caste > (set to Males if you wish males to be able to impregnate each other but not females to impregnate males, leave blank or select both Males and Females if you want either gender to be able to impregnate males)
NRaas > SP > Caste Options > Males > Pregnancy: Disallow Can Be Pregnant Caste > (should be blank or set it for Females if you wish to do it this way instead of the above)

For female couples it's similar, except of course females can already be pregnant by default. Then it's just a matter of allowing the other parent to be of either gender.

The floating head syndrome happens when a sim becomes pregnant and reaches the stage where they would be "showing," but there are no maternity clothes available for them. This applies to each of teen females, males, and teen males, as under EA Standard these clothes do not exist for them (alien male pregnancies are different, in those cases the sim merely gains weight). CC outfits are available for each of the three categories of sims as wanted from MTS and other places. Here are the ones from CmarNYC that many of us use, at least to start out with.

A hearty thanks for explaining in depth, as well as for the links. I'm definitely going to try it again. To satisfy my curiosity, if nothing else, as I'm curious about the advanced genetics feature.

I did wonder about the floating head syndrome, but didn't fully understand it as I more or less assumed (with Seasons installed) that male pregnancy would just be similar to alien pregnancies. It wasn't until recently that I saw a screenshot of someone's pregnant male Sim (by way of mod), and noticed they didn't just look obese.

Update
igazor, I think I got it working now - my guy is feeling nauseous due to "unknown causes". This part didn't happen before. Aside from taking the steps already explained, I set pregnancy to happen to the target of 'Try for baby' only. I'm so excited.
