Babies looking exactly like parents????

Post by Donii0x » April 29th, 2019, 3:31 am

Everytime any of my sims have kids and the kids age up, they look JUST like their parents? I was wondering if there is a setting where I can stop that? Or do I have to turn anything off in nrass?

Babies looking exactly like parents????

Hi there. What you are describing is parental clone syndrome, whereby sims' kids pick up almost exactly the same CAS settings as one or the other of their parents instead of any blending or wandering from those settings having taken place. This is much more likely to happen consistently when EA's genetics are in play, much less so if NRaas StoryProgression's Advanced Genetics is in control (SP's progression must be in control, the SP Population add-on module is required).

Are you using SP/SP Population, or rather were you when the kids were born?

When this happens to us anyway, which again should not be with every birth, and we do not wish it to, many of us use MC's PlayWithGenetics function under MC > Sim > Advanced (MC Cheats module required) to reroll the kids' genetics a few times with the two parents selected as genetic donors until we see something that looks a lot less like a clone of one or the other and save the result. This can be done when the kids are babies or older, but you would have to change the age settings of the kid (this doesn't really make them older, it's just a preview for display) to see the differences in most cases if they are still very young.

PlayWithGenetics can be used to reroll individual sims whether SP is in control or not, but if it isn't then you will be rerolling using EA's genetics again.

Thanks for this information, igazor. Sometimes, one needs to be reminded that there are better options. I'm going to get that module right away, as I'm experiencing the same as Donii0x.

I was using SP/SP population (I belueve but I will check again to make sure)! So, do I have to have Advanced Gentics on?

You do in order to get the benefits of SP's genetics system. It's under NRaas > SP > General Options > Options: Pregnancy and should be on by default.

I checked and I did have it on... I had 5 kids and the boys and girls looked exactly like the parents. Maybe it was just the those set of parents? I’m going to try another family and see! Thank you so much!

You know, in real life, sometimes all the kids in a family are the spitting images of their parents as well. It does happen, and I'm sure the parents think it's a bit awesome :)

Sometimes, yes certainly. If you put a child photo of me next to one of my dad, except for styles having changed in between our generations it's actually quite difficult to tell us apart (much less so many years later). But we don't expect this to happen and stay that way as the child grows up 9 or 10 times out of 10, either.

Of course not. I didn't mean to imply otherwise :)

Babies looking exactly like parents????

In my Town Jump game, I've had both males and females look very much like one parent or the other when they grow up, or even a grandparent, but I love that some features and hair colors keep being handed down through the generations. I'm in my 10th town and the Frio/Ursine auburn hair stuck around throughout nine generations!

I do have NRaas SP and the Population module but I have the settings very low, I think at 15%, to allow for a small amount of blending and differences to occur. But I haven't played with it much in fear that the differences would be too great. Would 50% actually blend both parents equally? How would the grandparents genetics fit in with that as the heir grandparents always move with us? Does that ratio include skin and hair colors or just facial features? My Town Jump tries to incorporate unique features from each town we live in, and maybe that would actually work better if I increased the blend ratio?

Funny thing is, that even with two sims in the heir family, the mother and grandmother having the unique turquoise hair from IP, none of the four heir children inherited it, but four of the grandmother's spare grandchildren did! And none of their parents actually had it! So I'm wondering if I have my settings where grandparents actually contribute more genetically.

One thing that has surprised me with my tenth generation is that instead of having the pale ivory skin of their mother or grandfather, one of the twin girls has what looks to be a blend of her father's tanned skin with a mix of her mother's pale skin tone, making hers a brown shade with a tinge of maybe gray? in it.
here she is with the mother.

But her twin is several shades darker and almost has a black skin tone!

It was certainly a shock to see these twins being born with the mother having such a pale white skin, but now I'm wondering if the grandfather's skin tone might actually be on the white/gray/black slider.
Image

If I took them into CAS could I confirm my slider theory without messing up their original genetics?

I had that happen with ghost sims and it's made me a touch nervous about taking my sims into CAS!
