University Life Performance Bar decreasing when studying related skills?

Post by dreamsong1968 » March 13th, 2019, 5:48 pm

My sims are in day four of their second term at university. Term one went off without a hitch.

Term two I am having problems with grades despite them doing nothing but studying and skilling constantly when their basic needs are met. I just noticed that my PE major who is a level 9 jock and spends most of his time working out, is losing performance while working out on the treadmill. As it is a skill related to his major it should be going up. His class for the day isn't due to start for four hours so he isn't missing class.

My other sim has struggled all semester with her performance. She is a Business major and also a level 9 jock, and spends most of her time at the library studying Charisma and Social Networking. Even when she is studying those skills she loses performance and she has no gains in performance during class despite using the work hard tone. I hate having to cheat for performance when they are doing everything right!

No CC in my game. Only Nraas mods. The only thing different this term is the addition of the Tempest mod, which is on the original settings.
Installed mods are AntiMagicScroll, Careers, DebugEnabler, Decensor, Dreamer, GoHere, Hybrid, MasterController, Mover, OnceRead, Porter, PortraitPanel, StoryProgression, Tagger, Tempest, Traffic, Traveler, Woohooer, WrittenWord.

Afraid I can't say why this is happening exactly, except for a known issue with the Science skill but that doesn't seem relevant to your current sims' fields of study. I notice though that you have neither NRaas Overwatch nor ErrorTrap listed in your mod collection. Overwatch fixes a whole bunch of skill related problems just by being in place, and ErrorTrap will report on errors it detects in-game that otherwise go unnoticed. You might want to declare this term a waste of time (unfortunately), revert to a save from before your sims left for Uni if you have one available, and try again with OW and ET in place. Or you could try adding the mods from where you are now, they certainly shouldn't make things any worse.

I'm not sure how I overlooked Overwatch, but I do have that. I think it was the very first mod I ever installed! LOL. The quiet mod that needs little help from me but makes everything work so much better! ErrorTrap I can put into the game, but I had read at one point that unless you are having major errors you really don't need it. I think I remember reading that it generates a lot of reports that are of no use to the average player? Anyway, I'll add that and see what happens. It may be awhile before I have anything more to tell you though. I cheated to get them their A's and move on with the game. Super social sims aren't my favorite to but I wanted to do something a little different--and I really don't want to redo that term! When their kids get to uni I'll be back I'm sure!

Thanks again igazor!

Understood about not wanting to redo the term. I recently played one with 7 sims at Uni at the same time and two of them kept getting bumped out of their classes, including their final exams. It was complicated enough to keep track of everything and I didn't want to replay that busy term either, so I did the same thing in the end and granted them the grades/credits I thought they would be earning anyway.

Yes, ErrorTrap can be chatty but it just takes some practice or we can coach you on how to read and interpret its script logs. Some of them will be reporting on routine operations, not really errors, others will be error conditions that it is "trapping" and indicate something needs to be fixed or tended to that we wouldn't otherwise know about. Along the way the mod also performs data trash collection that the game alone should do but doesn't, thus helping to keep things running smoothly. I am pretty confident that my now seven year old ongoing game just wouldn't be functional anymore without it.

I have heard of the strategy of only putting ErrorTrap in play when something is wrong. Sorry, but that's a bit like brushing your teeth and flossing five times before going to the dentist for the first time in years after months of not doing so. It's not really going to help that much and your dentist will see what you have been (not) doing all along anyway. :( (not that I would know this first hand or anything...coughs, holds side of mouth in sudden pain)

Yeah, it sounds like Error Trap should definitely be in there. I was thinking as I typed that, "When exactly isn't TS3 having some kind of problem that would need ErrorTrap?"

Have you been hacking my dental records or something? ;-)

Well...I stay up late a lot. I'm surrounded by computers and get bored easily. You (and your dentist) may draw your own conclusions from that as you wish. :)

I guess I can talk to her about that when I see her in 4.5 years. You sound like me. Night owl surrounded by screens with too much time on my hands!
