The Dreaded Error 12...

It's unlikely to help, but just in case: some suffered from this error due to incorrect placement of objects. For example, something is located too close to the edge of the lot or you used moveobjects on and didn't notice the object accidentally slipped out of your hand. At best, it would be nice to remember what you were doing before this error occurred. And be careful with the custom content. I don't think this can relate to error 12, but still. One day I downloaded the choker, tried on my ward, and CAS became very lag. Of course, this is not a reason to give up all these cute trinkets that make talented creators, but carefully check what you download and how the game behaves after that.

Maybe we should have been a bit more clear about this, but capping the fps rate of the graphics card and getting formal recognition of the same doesn't exempt the player from Error 12s. The point there was to improve game performance and not have the hardware burn out during what should be routine play by spinning its wheels thousands of times per second for no useful purpose.

Error 12 is an out of usable resources condition. It can be triggered by RAM spikes through the danger zone (above 3.5 GB for most of us, the hardline cap is 3.7 GB), so RAM usage still needs to be watched over or when the computer's RAM is all tied up with other things. It can also be triggered by over usage of more difficult to gauge assets like video memory and what the game calls "virtual memory," which is not what the rest of the world calls it, and yes by badly made CC that takes far more in the way of resources when used in game than CC ever should. Maybe saving once per hour is not often enough for this game/world or what was the current game session had been going on for too long without a save, total quit, and reload? Or maybe the current world is too large, over-populated (especially with StoryProgression in play), complicated, there are too many intricate things on the active household lot, inventories are too full of stuff, there are too many Dream Managers running on inactive households, for the game engine to handle well?

Thanks to you both and I will consider all of this as I play. Yes, the lot these people live on is huge, 64x64 and perhaps way too full of things. I will probably even get rid of a lot of things to see if this helps. I don't have tons of custom content though, mainly just hairstyles and a few bit's of clothing, most of those are formal wear for the ladies and a few more things for kids and teens. I did make sure to download from the more reputable creators, based on ratings and such.Of course I know that isn't 100% safe, but again, not to many CC things.

Hey, where did you get that hairstyle your sim has?

Hi John,
It's from The Sims Resource, made by Cazy. Here's the link: Hairmesh 20 - Female :-)

The Dreaded Error 12...

Just want to throw my tuppence worth in here. I was playing in Riverview and most of the time I tried to save I'd get an Error 12. It happened especially when I took a sim into CAS and tried to save. I got so fed up with constant error 12's I moved my game to Evensdale County and set it up the same as I had in Riverview with the same families and since then haven't had one single Error 12. So I don't know why this happens in one world and not another. I love Riverview and had planned on making that my permanent homeword, but it didn't work out.
