Break-down-plaooza!

Post by JohnL83 » February 23rd, 2019, 1:49 pm

Suddenly everything in my sims mansion is breaking down! And for different sims. No one in the house have any bad traits like unlucky or clumsy. WTF is the deal here? First, one sim went to the bathroom and the sink broke, repaired, then he took a shower, that broke, repaired, the wife was doing laundry, washer broke, repaired, the sister did dishes, dishwasher broke, repaired, then the son went to watch TV and that broke too! What the heck is with the sudden breakdown of everything?
Yes things break down way too often in general for sims and I kinda get that since we are encouraged to increase skills and such, but this was ludicrous to occur all in one day! Is something amiss and is there a ways to have this occur less often?

Side note question: On a completely different topic, what thing in my mods did I screw with that makes sims put books away before they are actually completed? Each time they finish reading, even though the book isn't completed, they have started putting them away. They used to keep them in their inventory if they only just stopped reading at some point.

1 - Welcome to the pleasures of modern living. You have a house full of (presumably) up to date appliances, as they each begin to break down just stop and think for a moment how much more "fun" it would be to live without electricity and running water entirely as our ancestors managed to do somehow.

Okay, but seriously I have this happen at some point with just about every residential lot I play for the first time. Not on day one, I mean further down the road. Never attributed any kind of science to it, but plumbing and appliance breakdowns are on all different schedules for chances of breakdown per usage. Soon after the beginning though, it will seem like they will all breakdown at once. Then once repaired, they go back to more random and less all at once kinds of breakage, especially as some items like toilets and showers will be used daily and far more often than others. I've just come to expect it and if there is a handiness skilled sim on the lot they have much to do for a few sim days. If not, then the repair Service Sim is on speed-dial.

I will also note that everything will tend to fall apart in the hours leading up to a massive party or family reunion. But I know that's just coincidence, just like sims' phones seeming to ring at all the wrong times just as they were doing something Very Important that cannot be interrupted. It's all in our imaginations, right? ;)

2 - Check out this setting.
NRaas > SP > General Options > Options: Sims > Put Away Inventory Books > (T/F)
(SP Extra add-on module required)
(Note that setting this one to False will also set Put Away Books: Allow Active to False and hide the secondary option from view)

I'm thinking NOT a coincidence! :P For your information sir, this was the day my couple's daughter was having her bachelorette party at the house. (it being a big mansion I did it there, but generally I've always had them at a club or something)
I was having everyone clean up before the 9pm start time and every single appliance that was touched broke. In my households someone generally has the handy trait and even if not I make sure they can repair stuff themselves since it happens so often anyway, but this was a bit annoying, even if a tad funny. I went back to playing after posting this and during the party the hot tub broke and another two sinks broke too! I've been playing Sims for over a year now and never had such an experience. I am thankful both 'mom and dad' were level 10 fixers as well as handy sims and fixed everything quickly.

BTW: It was also a very successful party and lasted right up until the two sons had to head off to high-school and then some. Oops...forgot to give everyone time off. LOL I did the adults, but didn't think about the teens. So I just maxed their motives, which I generally don't do, but since it's my fault I cheated a bit. Not that one day would have hurt them to be stressed and tired at school, but still I felt bad. HAHA Besides, IRL kids can bounce back easily from parties, at my age if I'm out past midnight it takes two days to recover!

I have to say it's kind of fun, even if a bit annoying, that I can still have new things happen in the game that didn't before. As long as it's just part of the fun I'm okay with it, I just wanted to be sure I didn't accidently tweak a mod or something else might have caused this insane amount of breaking bad.

There is a reason why discounts at many restaurants that target diners "over a certain age" seem to apply only before 5:30 pm. Apparently (coughs, those who might qualify) would never dream of having dinner later than that and would typically be calling it a night very soon thereafter.

Sigh...not there just yet, but I hit the big five-oooh in another year, so there's that. They say that's still "middle age" I say it's only middle-age if I live to be 100. LOL Still, a few folks on both sides of my family have made it there, so who knows?
I don't really concern myself too much with age though, it's all relative.

I say that, but in my 20's I could go out on weekends until the bars closed at 3 am and then head to work at 8 am without too much trouble, after 35 that got A LOT harder. (I always paced myself well and rarely over-did the drinking) Of course that occurs a lot less now...no one wants to see my "middle aged" butt on the dance floor and I hardly drink anymore anyway because I generally just fall asleep after a couple of beers or one Jack-n-Coke. :|

It's nice to live through my sims who just need full motives and they can dance, woohoo and party at any age. I'd give anything to bend it like they do on the dance floor. I would end up in the hospital doing nearly any of those moves!...

Great coincidences! I always have a butler or a handy sim for a breakdown. However, calls at the most inopportune time is what strikes me the most. The developers are clearly something mixed, because to invite on a date after midnight at least indecent. As soon as my ward goes to bed, someone will call. Of course, these things happen rarely (I don't mind dating, but I've reduced the chances of it), but yesterday it happened twice in a row.

What about the butler? Ever since I got him I stopped noticing how many objects get dirty and break. However I have it a little bit not like everyone else, so sometimes my sims have to help him, but he's still a sweetheart. If you have a mansion, the butler will be an excellent addition to it.

If you didn't know, with drowsiness, pupils can sleep in the classroom. However there is a very big chance that they will be caught and punished. I think it's quite fair realism. And besides, not all young people quickly recover from lack of sleep. And yes, until today I thought 83 in your nickname was the year of birth. I don't know why, but I was trying to estimate the age of the local users.
