Edit Town Problem/With Lots

Post by mahoganywood28 » February 16th, 2019, 10:17 am

I built an Apartment building, and as soon as I moved my Sims in, it changed to residential housing. The housing ICON shows. At first I could see the Apartment building Icon, but once the sims moved in, the lot changed itself to a house. I did a test where I evicted the Sims, changed the lot back to an Apartment building, and then I saw the Apartment Icon again. But once I moved them back in, it went back to to being a house. My building does not function like an APT building. I have done exactly 3 reinstalls with no CC or Mods, trying to fix another issue of not being able to shop at the grocery store or book stores, fixed that problem, but I still have this issue. Is there a way to fix this problem with my Apartment building? I used NRAAS reset lot, but no change.

EDIT TOWN PROBLEM/WITH LOTS

We are happy to help but kindly do not type out subject lines in ALL CAPS. It looks like you are yelling at us. I will adjust this one for you.

There are two kinds of apartment buildings in TS3. The first is LN style apartments, which is probably the type you had in mind. These contain one usable residential unit and one or more additional darkened out hidden units that are behind NPC-only doors and utilize the hidden room marker where otherwise homeless sims (Service, Role Sims, homeless co-workers, street performers, etc.) appear to "live" but really go into to hibernate when their services are not required. The "neighbors," again really homeless sims and not from proper households, can be summoned by way of a call box in the lobby. The shared areas of the building like the lobby and any other such as a laundry, rec room, and elevators, are designated by public room markers. The lots function this way to give the appearance of a busy apartment building with sims coming and going. The building can be a highrise structure but does not have to be. The lot type for this kind of structure is Residential-Regular, just like a regular house would have.

The second kind is Uni style apartments. These accommodate one residential household and automatically switch on the town's Roommate Service with no way to ever switch it off, thus by the next sim morning you will be provided with 1-7 NPC roommates sharing your household's living space and paying rent. This structure is really the Uni World's dormitory concept ported over to homeworlds and is not typically what players have in mind when they think of apartments. The lot type for this kind of structure is Residential-Apartment.

If what you were really after was a multi-unit dwelling with more than one residential household occupying their own dedicated spaces and operating independently of each other within the same building/lot, under EA standard this does not exist. We can come a bit closer to such a structure using either Ani's Apartment Mod from this site or PJSutton's mod from MTS -- but not both, the two mods are not meant to be used together. You may want to read up on what each mod does before selecting either one to try out.

I am so sorry about the caps, I didn't realize they were on. I tend to play with ALL caps on when Simming, as I label lots I build in All caps to find them easier. I see what you're saying Igazor, and yeah the type of Apartment building I wanted was for each Sim to have an individual unit, as in an Apartment building and not like a house. I do have Ani's Mod installed but it's not working for what I wanted either. I am able to lock their doors, so I guess that's all I can get. Haha. Thank You so much for your reply and detailed explanation.
