How Much Modification is Needed?

Post by Uhtred » February 11th, 2019, 9:27 am

Recently, I posted about glitches I was having with some of my Sims 3 families on the Sims 3 forum. Should you wish to see the most updated take on this go to this thread (chatterbox/topic7010) but for the purposes of this new thread I have made you do not need to know the details of that. Basically I have learned from this that the unmodified game of Sims 3 is plagued by many errors and glitches that need mods to fix, for example ErrorTrap for some background stuff, Traveler to fix travel transitions, and Story Progression to prevent everyone in your town from disappearing.

So here is my question. Here are all the mods I have currently installed: http://prntscr.com/mjl8gc. I would like to know if, for the purpose of a functioning game, I should install any other mods. Now I may install other mods on this site to make the game more fun, which is why I installed the Careers mod even though nobody recommended it to me, but that is not the point of this thread. The goal here is to find out if I need to install any other mods to fix some error the game already has.

I would like to avoid the scenario of running into some new problem with my game later on, and then posting about it in a forum, then being told that a mod I haven't installed will fix it. I would like to know about that mod now so I will never experience the possible new error in the first place. So yeah, am I set when it comes to mods designed to fix errors in the game's code or are there more I should install?

How Much Modification is Needed?

Once, about six months ago, I came to this site in order to get help to fix a bug (one of the options seemed to have side effects) that didn't allow me to play normally in the future. And now I'm getting to the point of fighting annoying things. I'm not a fan of unusual modifications, but, nevertheless, I want to fully enjoy the game. Aside from those mods you have, I'd recommend DebugEnabler, Retuner, and GoHere. The first two mods may just be in your game because they did not manifest itself, but using DebugEnabler, for example, you can fix the problem objects or fix problem sims (problem with the gait, problem with disappearance of interactions), and using Retuner you can disable the annoying things. Using GoHere you can step by step to hold a sim from one point to another, setting the queue of actions "go here" at several different points, plus this mod prohibits autonomous gatherings of companies and does a lot of other useful things. I don't know what else you may want in the future, but you can always ask here a question about something specific. Some useful options are hidden in the most unexpected mods. I'd also recommend periodically cleaning the game using the program SaveCleaner by Kuree or you can do it manually, using Sims3 Package Editor (s3pe). By the way, with version 1.69 you may have some problems with SaveCleaner, but I'm not sure. It would be better if someone else would clarify this detail.

SaveCleaner v1 still works on Patch 1.69. It's the v2 variants that do not.

I will second the recommendation for GoHere. In addition to the other great things it does/fixes, it provides a redo of world lot routing that is helpful to the game's performance in many worlds. You also seem to be missing Woohooer. Not every player wants that, but the mod is known to fix the infinite birthing bug that many players experience before it ever happens.

Looking over the OP's list of mods, I also wouldn't be so quick to recommend ALL of the SP Personality modules (these are the ones called Lovers, Meanies, Werewolves, etc.) at once. The purpose of these modules is to add a measured amount of chaos to an otherwise more or less ordered sequence of progression. Unless the OP likes a lot of chaos in their worlds. I would find having more than maybe one or two activated to be distracting and difficult to follow, but other players do like them all. Some prefer to not have any. The six "regular" SP modules (Extra, Money, Career, Skill, Relationship, Population) should be fine even though they do add a lot of progression related content for the player to get used to when just starting out with SP.

As for other recommendations and tips to improve/enhance game performance, it would be best to point out this page in case it hasn't yet been noticed: TIPS-FOR-BETTER-GAME-PERFORMANCE
