Coming back to The Sims 3 and StoryProgression

Post by AnthonySarubbi » January 27th, 2019, 9:16 am

Good day!

I played The Sims 3 in the past with storyprogression but the lag always demotivated me of playing continuously. After speaking to a friend, I decided to give it a new try. The big difference will be the expansions/stuff packs that I shall install, in the past I played with all expansions.
I thinking of only installing the following:
  • World Adventures
  • Ambitions
  • Late Night
  • Generations
  • Seasons
  • University Life
  • Fast Lane Stuff
So the question is, will my game be able to run smoothly together with story progression?

Here are my specs: http://prntscr.com/mctovk

I'm sorry that you had trouble prior, but your system should be able to run all 11 EPs fine together with StoryProgression. The Stuff Packs don't add any real overhead, all of them should be fine as well. Note that you have dual graphics, the Nvidia Control Panel should be set to run the game's executable on the high performance card, not the Intel, and it's very important that vertical sync is arranged and the in-game fps rates checked with the fps on cheat code to make sure it's staying locked in at or below the refresh rate of your monitor.

There could be or have been other factors. Some worlds such as unfixed versions of Isla Paradiso and to a lesser extent Bridgeport are design flawed and cannot take the added stress on any system. Ongoing saved games might be overpopulated -- the impact of SP will depend on the resident population levels on any system, but how many is too many will depend on the world being played. The overall speed of progression (under General Options) can be turned down to one of the two slower ones or of course the resident population can be trimmed. And some custom worlds are very nice looking but just too large for the game and then SP to handle.

What kinds of worlds/saved games were giving you the intolerable lag, or was it all of them including freshly started games? Was the lag just kind of a difficult to describe heavier running feeling or are we talking about outright run, sputter, freeze, repeat to the point where things were unplayable?

I can't say anything definite but I can write something based on my experience. I have not a good computer, a minimum of add-ons, some content from the store and CC. During the use of SP terrible lags did not notice, but after the case when the hospital became the most popular place in the town I forbade a boost to activity. If I'm not mistaken, it gives the load, so you can also try to experiment and turn off the most "heavy" options. But I don't know what exactly you want from SP, and I don't know how many Sims you control. A large family, very active characters and rapid population growth in any case affect the performance of the game. Maybe you should give up something, maybe you should read the topic about improving the performance of the game. In the end, you should just try and see how the current build will show itself with SP. If something goes wrong again, you can safely remove it. By the way, in the last game the difference with this mod and without it was really noticeable? I just want to rule out that the reason for the frustration was the heavy by default town, not SP.

Thanks both for the answers. Now answering the questions.

The lag happened in all worlds in fresh started games.
I experienced freezes of some seconds about every two in-game hours.
I used the default settings of SP, only with imigration enabled.
I used most of the tips for better performance, especially the mods.

Forgot to mention that I did use a lot of small mods (a lot of them scripts...) and CC. I thought that the expansions together with SP were playing the major role in the lag. Im going to do some performance runs only with the mods from here (including SP with default settings) and bring the definitive answer.

Thanks again for the clarifications.

So, I decided to use most of the expansions and stuff packs and the mods from here. No major lag, just the occasional freeze. Guess it must have been some mod that I considerated necessary that caused all the lag. For me then, the problem is solved.

Thanks both for the time!
