Just wanted to say how impressed I am with this move, in terms of both the effort and the technical skill involved in pulling it off. In particular, porting over user accounts and messageboard posts to an entirely different software platform is not something that many medium-sized companies would be able to do, let alone most fan-run communities.

Thanks. Yes, it was not easy. I had to write custom scripts for each content type that parsed the old site and pulled the data then converted it. This turned into a train wreck at times because things like the pages were edited by so many different users, some of which weren't experts with the old editor and seemed to hit every button on it adding excessive markup, making it extremely difficult to get them parsed into the new format because the code in them wasn't uniform. We have nearly 2,000 FAQ entries and pages and some of those had to be manually converted because the scripting kept busting due to the malformed markup. I spent months on that alone. Things like posts turned into a last minute debacle (which is why some things weren't as ready for launch as I had hoped them to be) when the wiki export tool kept failing because the site had so much data I had to spend the final few weeks writing another script to manually pull them page by page. In the end I wrote about 10,000 lines of code just to convert data.

Hey Boss, is there a working link to download the Mod Updater? The ones I found in Mod Updater for the latest stable version 1.14.2, can't download. The link- file/view/NraasModUpdater11402.zip/5929 ... r11402.zip is from, (nraas.net/community/file/view/NraasModUpdater11402.zip/592979046/NraasModUpdater11402.zip)

Thanks in advance,
Don

front360 - The Mod Updater has been decommissioned so there isn't really any point in downloading it right away as it won't work. It was entirely programmed to functon in our former Wikispaces environment, which no longer exists. It will be redone in time so that it works for this site, or at least that's the plan. :)
