Override folder?

Post by narukaze » December 30th, 2018, 10:21 am

Not sure exactly where to put this, this seemed like the right place.
So a lot of places say you shouldn't install things to the override folder without the mod author telling you to. Why is that?
I would guess the override folder just loads things in it after everything else, thereby overriding previous entries. So if you want to make sure a mod's contents override everything else, and are therefore the ones used in the game, shouldn't you put it in there?
Thanks!

Override folder?

There's a good tutorial by Nona Mena about the Overrides folder. Here's the link: How to Create and Use an Overrides Folder

There may be others out there as well but I haven't come across them. Anyway, I hope this one helps. :-)

I just want to comment on the part I bolded. The files in the Packages folder will 'override' the game content. The Overrides folder is more for overriding the contents of the Packages folder (and consequently will also override game content). If you are having problems with mods or CC not working and you suspect it's due to things overriding each other in the Packages folder, it's probably better to check for conflicts with Delphy's Dashboard and resolve them before starting to move things into your Overrides folder as a solution. For more info on resolving conflicts in the Dashboard, see Sarah_Sims' post here.

Thanks for the info.
Honestly, I was just curious, since that had been confusing me.

Override folder?

narukaze - Think of it this way. In theory, you could put all of your mods and package based files into Overrides. But if two or more of them are vying for the same resource then they will still load in random order relative to each other and you will have defeated the purpose of having a higher priority Overrides folder to begin with.
