Can't Make Teen Only Schools

Post by Gwendy » December 25th, 2018, 1:41 am

Okay, so my town is populated with so many kids, I had to make them another school. I figure, "Hey, I can make one school be an elementary school, and the other school can be a high school!" Now, I can make the elementary school okay, with going to Lot Options>Caste:Disallow>Teens at the original school, but there's no Caste: Disallow>Children option for the high school I just built (twinbrook school rabbit hole). How do I keep the kids going to the elementary school and not going over to the high school? I have Story Prog base, Story Prog Relationship, and Story Prog Extra installed.

Nevermind, I figured out you have to manually make the castes, sorry!

Can't Make Teen Only Schools

Hi there. The procedure is a little fussy, but it does work (eventually). I have elementary and high schools in most of my worlds, or at least all of those where there are more than 30 or so children and teens combined who aren't homeschooled or in the Careers mod specialty schools.

1 - You either need to make the high school Caste: Required for Teens or you need to create an SP caste, of type Automatic, for Children and then make the high school Caste: Disallowed (edit: corrected) for your new Children caste. Note that doing it the first way with the Caste: Required will prevent YAs and older from working at the high school in the Education career or using the lot for other purposes, but they can always do these things at the other school instead.

2 - The GoHere mod is required in order for SP's Lot Options to have the required effect on school registrations.

3 - Both schools should be bulldozed and replaced after the mods are in place and adjusted. This will often fail the first time and kids/teens will still register for random schools or the one closest to their house. Sometimes it take two or three tries on my end or I end up manually assigning everyone in the beginning using MasterController until the restrictions take hold properly. Note that bulldozing the schools and replacing them, or insisting that children and teens switch schools mid-stream in any way, will reset their school performance scores to 0. I usually take note of the top performers and top slack-offs and adjust those performance scores using MasterController (MC Cheats module required) when everything is set up the way I want it and stable again.

4 - Homeless NPC children (newspaper deliverers) and teens (babysitters) will sometimes show up for school sort of for effect. They will randomly show up at the "wrong" one, there is no way to stop that from happening as they aren't really registered as students there.

5 - Another great solution to crowded schools involves this mod. I still create separate public schools, one of my worlds has three of them (down from four, there was a baby boom that is aging up now), but the mod gets everyone shoved into and out of schools much more efficiently as it allows the extra doors such a building might have to be used properly instead of insisting that everyone queue up in front of one door the EA was. It's helpful in Uni World as well.

"or you need to create an SP caste, of type Automatic, for Children and then make the high school Caste: Allowed for your new Children caste."

Thank you very much for replying to my question, but I don't quite understand this part. Why am I making the Caste:Allowed for the Children caste for the Highschool when I don't want the children to go there?

That was a typo on my part, sorry. I meant to say you would need to create a Children caste if you wish to use Caste: Disallowed for Children on the high school. That way YAs and older can use both schools for their careers and for other purposes, whereas Caste: Required on either lot is totally restrictive.
