Stranger things....

Post by JohnL83 » December 8th, 2018, 2:00 pm

Sara_Darkees - I really enjoyg building as well. One of my fav games is Cities Skylines I build great cities. I spend more than half of my sims time making homes, venues etc. I tried TS4 with the free play thing and I didn't care for it at all. I don't like the cartoon look of the sims now and I really hate not having the open town to move around in. There are some things I thought were nice, but I just decided to save my money and keep Sims 3 with mods. :-)
I do wish that we could have better "family dinners" in the Sims3.  Sometimes I can get it timed just right that most of them are all eating together, but somone always finishes early and gets up to clean up. It would be nice to have them all sit together where the others wait until the whole family is seated, then eat and visit and then randomly get up and clear the table.

The game looks impressive, but I have not seen it before (of course, because the Russian localization promise in 2019). But I'd see what you built there. Ah yes, I'd like to build a town in CAW, but I can't do that at the moment. I have ideas, but I'm afraid I won't have the patience. So I'm ennobling the town those lots, which in the game is not enough.
In each part of The Sims there are those interesting things that are not in others. I'd like to play TS2 or TS. However I'm too used to the graphics and atmosphere of TS3. TS4 is very bright and plasticine for me. The lack of an open world is a big plus for performance, because not everyone has good computer. But we don't like it anyway :D
If the family is small, then gather all together pretty simple. I also like when sims talk over the meal. And you can use the Relativity options and give sims the opportunity to eat longer.

Use this mod one time and chances are you will never want to do without it.  :)

It doesn't do the wait until everyone is seated before you may begin eating thing, sims aren't generally that well-mannered, but it certainly helps over the "grab a plate and bump into everyone else trying to get to the same chair then go sulk in the corner instead of eating at all" fiascoes that have ruined many of our family meals over the years.

Oh, great. I hope it works on my version, too. If so, I will have the opportunity to arrange a real Christmas or new year's feast. Thank you, igazor. Is there an analogue for drinks?

Icarus' mods are kind of like NRaas. You may as well get them all, you know you are going to some day. Okay, maybe not all at once...  :)

That's no coincidence though. He was a contributor here when he was active as well as the developer of his own brilliant mods hosted on MTS.

On the drinks question, not exactly but Ani's Have Coffee With Me mod comes awfully close for standard coffee machine beverages. I can't think of a way to serve cocktails or nectar to a group like that, but then sims don't spend much time doing nothing but sipping those drinks as they do over coffee/tea and food. If they do hold onto the glass for longer than the first sip, they tend to multitask with it in hand.

And yes, the grab a platter and go wherever you want with it, whenever you want, is fine for buffet style serve yourself meals. But for sit-down dinners or anything else, the icarus way works out much better for most of us. I love how he has the one who is serving place the leftovers (if there are any) within reach in case anyone wants a second helping and how he divides the group so that the mod still works if there aren't enough seats at one table for everyone.

I hope Icarus' mods are kind of like nraas mods not in the sense that they are very principled in terms of patch.
About drinks... In the first versions of the game there was no multitasking when sims were drinking something. On the one hand, it is good that now they don't waste time, but on the other hand they do strange things. For example, for some reason, they turn on and turn off the telly, which is even IN ANOTHER ROOM! :x
And strange things happen when I order a drink from a bartender for a character. The other character gets a drink, but my character doesn't. He's not holding anything in his hand. Am I the only one who have this absurd? If not, I'd like a link to whoever fixed it.

Sara_Darkees - Icarus designed his mods on 1.63 or higher as those were the patch levels he had to work with at the time; I believe his development cycle began very early in 2014. He later updated the first few that needed updating for 1.66/67 (1.69 was irrelevant for these). It would not have been realistic to expect backwards compatibility with older patch levels, it's not a matter of having been principled. That's not to say they all won't work on prior levels, I'm sure many of them will if nothing he had been working with had changed.

I don't want to keep hammering this point as I realize it's been made enough times already, but I do hope you find a satisfactory path up to a current patch level. It will make things much easier for you to cope with going forward.

I've never had an issue with sims buying a drink for someone else at a venue and not ending up with one themselves. Sometimes, rarely, the animations go strange or the glass gets stuck to their hand for a while, but they still get the effects of having had that drink.

It's working! Feast to be! At first I tried to prepare a fruit parfait, but the interaction "call to meal..." not appear. I thought that a problem in incompatibility of versions. I'm not whining or complaining. I understand that all the creators make mods for the normal players, not for those who have an unusual quirks. But why do some creators delete previous versions if there are no errors? Once again I regret that I didn't download all the mods when it was possible. Well, this time I was lucky. I made waffles, and, it turns out, everything works. Now even the butler will eat with us. It's so nice. And my characters don't have to be a waiters at their own party. Probably fruit parfait itself "non-working" for a family or a friendly meal.

Thanks Igazor, I will give it a try!

BTW: I browsed that creators other mods and saw the one with more romantic interactions. Do you have that one? I was curious how well it works?  The creator said that sometimes the sim may not follow through with the interaction so I was wondering how often that occurs. If it's a regular thing I'd just rather not bother.

Sara_Darkees - I had a feeling that mod wouldn't give you any trouble. There may be something unusual about fruit parfait, this sounds familiar, that makes it not work with the mod. Possibly that it's served in a bowl rather than on a plate. But hot soup works, so maybe it's that parfait is both in a bowl and heat-cooking isn't involved in its preparation or something odd like that.
