So SP keeps giving me the "so-and-so have been desperately seeking to find a a place to settle in to no avail" for multiple households, so I moved them into vacant lots and checked their family funds. The one household has 500k and there are many, many houses available. What's the deal? They could literally buy any house in Sunset Valley, including the old Alto and Landgrab estates.

Also, some of the inactive Elders in the town have outlived 1-2 generations. Are they immortal?

This was happening to me too: chatterbox/topic6564

I was told it's an issue with AwesomeMod. Do you have that installed? If not, something else might be amiss.

It may be some strange glitch, but in my experience it's because of something silly, like none of the houses have enough pet beds, or there are not enough single beds or something of that sort. Depending on your SP settings for home inspection your sims look for homes that may also need work-related items like the drafting board. Or you have separated (stranded) couples and they sometimes need help being put into a home together when one is living with a family and the other by themselves.
Check your home inspection settings under SP and see what it's looking for. You can also, when you see that message, do a home inspection from City Hall, MC>Household> Focus Home Inspection. (hope I got that right, doing it from memory) In the list that will appear,  find the family in question and see what they need. It will give a list of every family in town who doesn't meet the criteria for living in their current home. about 75% of the time it's pet beds, which always bugged me because pets rarely even sleep in them.
BTW; A much easier way to check family funds total is to go to edit town and evict the family without the house and while they are waiting in the bubble it shows you their total funds. Then you can also use that time to find a proper home and make sure it has all the amenities that family will need. It's what I do, but I imagine there may be even better suggestions.

(Elanorea) I do not have AwesomeMod installed. I never really liked that one.

(JohnL83) I will keep that in mind. I have been slowly letting this town (5th gen. legacy) die off so I can move on to one of my other legacy households. It is bound to happen again.

Thank you both for your responses. I do appreciate it.

Interesting, then it may well be an issue with the base game. Though as I said in my thread, there is a set chance that an elder will die every day he lives past the maximum lifespan. The chance depends on your lifespan settings (higher for shorter lifespans), and does not increase over time - so it is theoretically possible for a sim to never die of old age, simply by being lucky enough to dodge that set chance every day. It's statistically very unlikely, of course, but it does make it hard to tell if a case of abnormal longevity is caused by a bug or not.

Out of interest, have your "immortal" sims been mostly homeless/service sims, or is it happening just as much to resident sims?

I think it would also be helpful to know how long the total age span (for non-occults as those differ) that the OP has in play and exactly how much longer in sim days that resident elders are outliving it. The concept of a "generation" beyond isn't consistent because a generation can mean widely different things on lifespans of say 90 sim days vs. 5,000.

My sims' non-occult lifespan is 242 sim days. It is not unusual to see resident elders reach the 290s although the time is up for most of them before that, occasionally some of them break 300. But it's the daily coin tosses governing that, which are adjustable by way of SP by the way, and as said how long they have already outlived their life expectancy is not a factor on the daily toss. If I saw non-occult residents living as long as 484 sim days, then even the laws of probablity would suggest that something might be off-kilter.

No. They have been descenands of the original townies. Most of the town is on 4th or 5th gen.
