Instant Vacations....

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Instant Vacations....

Post by JohnL83 » November 26th, 2018, 10:13 pm

Is there an option to turn down the frequency of those instant adult vacations that pop up when you have teens? It's like the more teens you have the more they occur and with my family of triplets I have to turn this down about every other day it seems!
I rarely send adults on vacations since even with Traveler they can still lose inventory objects and still seem to return as different people not wanting to sleep in their own beds and such!  ie Becky is home, does Beck want to sleep in Becky's bed?  Who is Becky anyway? Oh look, she has to 'greet' or 'friendly introduction' herself to her siblings, spouse or kids again. What do you mean she can't enter this door anymore? Oh because it's Becky's room. sigh....:P

But every now and then I do enjoy the teen party since it's the only party other than bachelor/bachelorette that seems to keep the kids there all night, they usually all interact, dance and have fun and the passing out is hilarious.

I did just think of something, can I turn that off completely and set it up so that the adult vacations are user directed?

Do you mean the free vacation opportunity that comes with Generations?  Never accept that.  It's prone to glitches with the parents possibly never returning or the household forever being unable to travel again.  It ranks up there with the most buggiest features in the game judging by the posts people make about it on the offical forums.  Here's a mod to stop that opportunity from popping up at all.

If you want to do the same thing with Retuner, this is the path to the value I think that modder has changed:

Retuner>Settings>General>By Tunable XML>Sims3.Gameplay.Situations>ParentsLeavingTownSituation>kChanceForCheckingForParentsLeaving

Default value is 0.3.  The modder has changed this to 0.  Works in my game, I never get that opportunity anymore.  I'm not 100% sure if the modder made any other changes in that xml.

Do you use the Traveler mod? I do get some inventory objects disappearing on travel, mainly ITF stuff.  I don't see sims not knowing who they are as you describe.  The issue of not recognizing their own assigned bed used to be due to the sim being reset, by MC or OW I think.  But that's been fixed for a while now.  I don't see that just from sims traveling in my own game.

Yes that is the one. I wondered about this because all sorts of crappy things occur when I have done this. So yeah, I almost never use it and now of course I will never use it. LOl
Yes I do use Traveler Mod.
I do have a question though, is there a way to throw a "teen party" without parents where the kids stay all night and pass out as they do when you send the parents away? I enjoyed the teen party aspect where the parents were away. The few times I'd done it the teens all stay unil the next morning and often pass out and all sorts of fun stuff occurs. I got a kick out of them.  But trying to throw a teen party when the parents are "in town" just isn't the same. Just keeping the parents away from the house doesn't seem to work.  I can't always keep them away for long, though I have not tried having the aduts spend the night somewhere yet, but IDK if that would make any difference and the teen party just ends up behaving as any other party which is usually kind of lame.

I don't believe there is a direct counterpart to that party type outside of the broken Generations vacation scenario. You could try a Slumber Party though, if you don't mind everyone jumping into sleeping bags and falling asleep on you at midnight (I think there's a way to change the 12 midnight thing or remove it entirely with a tuning mod). Or you could just invite a bunch of friends over and ask them to spend the night without all of the party trappings.

When my teens have parties or overnighters, I usually send the parents out to dinner and the movies and then maybe to a bar or club for a while. Then they return home and creep (in my imagination) up the stairs to their bedroom trying to ignore the whole thing until it's over. If the house is large enough to have a rec room in the basement, then even that's not necessary and the adults can do whatever they want on other parts of the lot.

You should see some of the wild blowout parties my teens have thrown. There's often classical music, chess and dominoes games, slow dancing, sometimes pizza shows up. Hmm. You know, I haven't actually played this game for a while (first time admitting this) so I might be forgetting a few details here and there.

I've never tried a teen party, ever.  I've seen it in the list of party types though, even when the parents are home.  I think that's due to MasterController.  Do you have Island Paradise?  Maybe try putting a resort in town and have the parents check in for the night.  You can get some small resorts from My Sim Realty which are ready to be placed in a world and used as a destination.  I've never done this, but now that I've thought of it I might give it a try.  I'm currently playing Isla Paradiso and the household owns all 3 resorts there.  I could check the parents in for free at one of them for the day, make use of the free spa services while the 4 teens in the house throw a party.  I won't have anything to compare it to though since I've only accepted that opportunity once and didn't think to throw a party at the time.  Actually the teens are at university now; I wonder if it's a party type I can throw there....with a bunch of YAs?  Hmmmm....maybe I'll try to invite teens from the homeworld.

Wow, why not? They are hilarious! The kids all usually stay all night, flirt with anyone, dance and party like they rarely do at regular parties. They dance til dawn and then everyone starts passing out and if it's in the music area they wake and get all ticked off at the music waking them up, turn it off then pass out again only to have other teens turn the music back on. LOL. it's a trip and I enjoy them on occasion. Too bad I can't have that scenario without the glitchy adult vacation.
Igazor - I will try other types of teen parties but I've never had them be quite as entertaining as the one with the audlt vaca....and NO...no more slumber parties, HAHA Aside from everyone dropping everything to hit the sack at 12, the worst part is that all the teens would carry the sleeping bags in their inventories for good and I'd find them crashing literally anywhere they got sleepy. I'd see them outside of venues, in parks, on the porch etc. Plus when they are home they almost never use their own beds anymore but prefer the stupid sleeping bag. This annoyed me so much I got rid of them all.
I've slept in sleeping bags and an actual bed is no comparison. :P

JohnL83 - It's been a while, but isn't it the case that you can set out sleeping bags for them so they don't have to use and leave the lot with their own? Then the bags can go into family inventory so no one can reach them. Or, of course, we could use MC to delete them from their personal inventories. I agree that we can't let the party guests or even our active teens roam the town equipped with sleeping bags, that never works out right.  :)

Well, I've only accepted the free vacation once and didn't think to try the party option. My parent sims came back with all their saved wishes wiped and I was livid.  I checked the official forums, saw plenty of horror stories and never accepted the opportunity again.  Never thought to try a teen party again.  I've done a slumber party before.  It's was odd how they all suddenly collapsed all over the house.  The teen party sounds a lot like a bachelor party, which can do deep into the next morning.  As I said I'll have to try it out in my game soon.  I've got 8 teens headed for university and once they return home I could attempt a party before they head off for a final semester the next day.

I basically quit doing them about the third or fourth time, I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have any big losses those first few times. Except, I think they couldn't get through their locked bedroom door.  But then it all began for me too, I lost everything in their inventory inlucing the death flowers (didn't' have mods yet back then) and like you I saw this was a common glich so I quit them as well. Now I only do it if I have a new family without much to lose and it's almost never the case.  I've done it less than a dozen or so times in the last year, so far they always came back home though.
