Glitch crashing my game...

Post by JohnL83 » November 27th, 2018, 10:49 pm

Not sure what the deal is here But there is one sim who, when I go into CAS and try to change his clothing, the game crashes. It happens when I get to his workout gear (or is it swimwear?)  Anyway I have the report XCPT (which I believe is the crash report?) but I hesitate to share since it appears to have a lot of personal info in it. I don't pretend to understand it, but at the very bottom of this page under [Resister Memory] it says "Memory pointer appears to point to invalid memory" then a bunch of numbers and characters. It also mentions the Game Bin in several places like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3W.exe
0x004fe0f7

I'm assuming there's some sort of corruption with this outfit, because when I re-enter the game and this guy (who's not an active at the moment but someone from my game bin) the game puts him in girls ponytails for hair, the ones with the red ribbons LOL This happned 3 times I went into the same game after crashing. Again, he's not my active sim, but my creation and lives in the town. Each time he becomes an adult and this is what the game puts him in, so I go into fix his hair and all is fine, I changes everyday, formal, etc right down the line, but when I get to either his swim or active wear it crashes. (again, can't remember which one causes the crash, but it's after sleepwear.
Is there anyone who knows what may be wrong based on this info and what can I do to fix this? Other than just not change this dudes outfits that is. It only appears to happen when I try to alter this one characters clothes and only his active-wear or swimwear, the others change fine.

Do you use the MC option to show clothing in compact form?  If so try setting MC's CAS options to NOT show clothing in compact form and see what happens.  Some male CC in my game causes the game to crash when viewing clothing in compact form.

The XCPT reports are useless, just delete them.

Also, males aging into female hair is a known bug.  Happens all the time in my games.  I use MC/Stylst and go through the entire male population every few weeks and change what I can spot when viewing the thumbnails.

Ahhh Yes! I did just start using compact form. Thank you so much! What's funny is I don't even have the female hair open for males, but it was hilarious to see a dude in ponytails with the red ribbons. The longer hair is fine, i have some guys with long hair, but LOL at the ponytails. That seems to be the go-to hairstyle when it does glitch my men. So far it's the only one I've gotten, not bouffants, French twists,  or anything. Had it happen to a few guys and just figured it was a glich, easy to fix, but the crashing concerned me a bit. Glad to know it's just the compact form thingy. I suppose the wait isn't really that long for them to load. I will just deal with it as opposed to having the whole game crash! LOL

The crashing issue is (usually) due to one of the naked male tops. I get this as well whenever I have Compact View on and attempt to edit an outfit category that includes those so typically that includes athletic, swimwear, possibly sleepwear, and of course the naked outfit itself for males. For outfits that do not include those tops, Compact View can stay on for me. Fortunately we can toggle in and out of Compact View while still in CAS or Stylist by right-clicking on the "..." game options button and getting into MC Settings without having to keep leaving and re-entering CAS to change them.

The pigtail infestations are due to multiple instances of that hair being represented in the game files and at least one of them being incorrectly coded for both genders. It's really difficult to fix and most players put up with it, replacing the hair whenever it shows up on sims we don't think should have it. Strangely enough, as widely as that bug has been reported, I've never seen it (yet) in my own game.

Igazor, thanks for further explaining. I do like to know these things. Yes, the ponytails.red ribbons hairdo is easy to fix, I don't really mind and was never going to bring it up, but the game crashing was what brought me here. I will try to use your suggestion and just keep the formal, hats, accessories and daily wear in compact, but not the others. Or maybe just the hats and accessories. The clothing optons appearing I don't mind so much other than load time, I like to see my options in a few colors to know if I really want that outfit. So IDK, I will tinker around..
I do have to say though I've been very lucky with loading time of my actual game overall. Since I used that cleanup thing my games load in no more than 5 mintues usually. My oldest game still takes the most time, closer to 10, but after readinng about others loading times I feel grateful.
Still no new PC yet though. It may be right after the first of the year and I'm hoping the transfer of my games all goes well.  I'm missing my Cities Skylines so much! I'm also going stir crazy (insert moodlet) since my Turkey Day time off and now my post surgery time off this week. I'm actually looking forward to next Monday and going back to work. LOL :P

J4Ks (an NRaas colleague here) and I were all over this a few years ago. Didn't realize that bluegen produced that mod at around the same time or a bit later on. Her method won't work any better than EasyCASP Editor I'm afraid because she has failed to recognize that the hair has multiple instances in the game files and hers only affects one of them. But it's worth a try, it can't make things any worse for those so afflicted.

Judging by the comments to that mod it didn't work for many people.

It is one of the few I didn't actually use, I pull them into stylist and fix it. I enjoy having a giggle when it is a male sim, really doesn't suit male sims.
