Lot Issues

Post by JohnL83 » November 20th, 2018, 1:34 am

I am having a problem with a few lots in a couple of towns that wont stay set as what I set them!  An example is that I once accidently set a lot to "ownable" and built a home on that lot. Once I saw what I'd done a few days later I kept trying to set it back to regular lot, for the rest of that game it stays as I set it, but when I leave the game and come back to it at a later date it's back to ownable lot!  The same occured for a lot that I used to have an apartment building on (of my own design). I later demolished the apartment and built a home there. I turned it back to a regular lot and now that keeps turning itself back to apartment lot too. WTF is going on and why are they not staying what I set them? Is there a fix for this?

I remember that turning back an apartment lot is rather wonky and kind of a hassle. Not sure if you have to sacrifice a firstborn in the process but you could start with turning the lot into a community lot first (and probably save) before you turn it into a regular home lot then.

Sorry I can't give any better advice but my brain is still before coffee.

This is common. The fix is to set the lot to a community lot type, then set the lot back to Residential->Regular.  It should stick after that.

Arathea and TreyNutz - thank you I will try this. Sounds like you both have the same idea. Hope it works. :)

It should work. This is a pretty well-known Edit Town bug that has been around since the earliest days of the game. It may have been one of those things that was fixed by an EA patch then got broken again by a later one.

What? EA broke something, then fixed and then broke it again? Never, it was clearly working as intended originally, then they broke it and then they had to fix it so it works as intended again. EA never releases bugged games...  ;)

That would be correct. The too often stuck lot types were not a bug, they were an intended feature. A selling point of the game, even. Because who doesn't love tearing what's left of our hair out when our lot types don't stay the way we designate them without the extra step, thus providing hours and hours of additional fun for everyone.  :|

But modders have so much fun with changing the way the game works that EA has to provide things for them to change!

(I might be misremebering, but I think they actually did state that they deliberately put things into the game for the modders to work with. I belive it was in the same interview along with the idea they were working on of having a way to take your favorite sim on vacation with you, or send them to visit your friends. )
