Tourists

Role Sims, homeless, service Sims, oh my. Something tells me we're not in Sunset Valley anymore.

I'm not sure if it's Register alone or in combination with Traveler so I put it here.

I'm playing in Sunset Valley and now I send my active to Champs les Sims the first time in this save. When she arrived, before I was able to import or change any settings, half the population of Sunset Valley has followed her as tourists/explorers/whatever they are called. I want my sims to meet new sims on vacations, not the neighbors. How can I prevent this from the beginning?

When you arrive in a foreign world for the first time within an ongoing game, the NRaas mod settings of the world you are traveling from should transfer over. Thus if you set Register to disallow tourists or limit them to some reasonable number before having left the homeworld, even if that's not really what you want for the homeworld going forward, those settings should transfer over to the destination. Once the destination world has been already played within that ongoing game, both worlds' mod settings will remain independent of each other and that's where settings changes and imports come in.

They didn't get transfered over in this setup (and I have an idea what might cause it) and I imported the settings I had for university (don't need my neighbors there too) but I wasn't fast enough.

The settings still don't transfer over but even at my second visit to that WA world, with all settings in place, I still get lots of explorers from my main world.
I also noticed that this version of Register only has options to allow/disallow tourists from the installed worlds while the last version I had, had an option to disallow homeworld tourists which worked well for me.

It's possible that on the WA worlds, the tourism traffic (Explorers as they would indeed be called there) is handled differently than in Traveler-allowed custom destinations. Register should have a total on/off switch for tourism, I'm kind of surprised that is having no effect at all even on a WA world but again things might be different by design on these locations.
NRaas > Register > Tourism > Allow Tourists > False.

Since the WA worlds do not have a City Hall, I take it you are accessing the menu there from the map tag of Base Camp as that should be acting as a substitute?

Explorers are not Tourists they are a completely separate Role you can have both Tourists and Explorers roaming around the WA worlds and no Register doesn't affect them.

That's kind of what I expected after thinking about it for a while. But then what is the solution to prevent "half of the population" as the OP reports from showing up in the foreign world all at the same time? Seems like a bit much to cope with especially if the homeworld is more than sparsely populated.

Since there is tuning for the Explorers in the NPC Roles XML they could tune it to turn them off. But I think Shimrod has a No Explorers and Tourists mod at Sims Aslyum.

Maybe half the population was a bit of an overstatement but it felt like that. Every time I send a sim on adventures (three times while messing with the settings here) my single sim met one sim from another foreign destination at the base camp, the other six explorers were from Sunset Valley. It had a twilight zone feeling with them all acting like singles with no gender preference at all.

To change settings in the WA worlds I went into edit town and put down a computer somewhere. Didn't think of trying the base camp tag.

Turning of explorers would make the base camp rather empty, not exactly what I want.

I have disallowed all tourists with Register (Allow Tourists to False, Chance of Leaving at 100, and Maximum Number at 0) and haven't seen Explorers in WA worlds.  I assume that's the reason why I wasn't getting any Explorers at all.

I don't recall whether those settings transferred when traveling the first time, or whether I had to manually set them after my sims arrived.  This might have been a Register version ago.  I haven't had sims travel to the WA worlds in a new game recently with the most recent version of Register.

I didn't mind the empty base camps in that particular game.
