New Computer Ordered Woot Woot

Thanks Chain_Reaction. I haven't had a computer upgrade since Windows XP came out. I'm dancing and smiling all around my house. My son in law and daughter are awesome. They are the ones who put it together and then sent the link to me to get it ordered. It took me 2 years to save up the money.

Now all I have to figure out is how to transfer all my bookmarks, pictures and Sims 3 to the new one when it gets here :)

Cheers,
Bowlady

There are a lot of ways to do that. If you don't have loads of data, I think a flash drive is probably the easiest. In the US, Best Buy often has 32GB flash drives for about $10. You could simply copy the files to the flash drive on the old computer, then copy them from the flash drive onto the new computer. For the Sims, you'd want to install the program on the new computer before copying the data over.

This page has a number of other options that might work too, some free, others with a cost.

Thank you Tropical Insomniac, I paid for Rush so it's actually getting here TODAY!!!!!!!!!  My biggest concern is all the pics I have of my husband that passed away in 2017, everything else if I loose it I can refind it, the pics are irreplaceable and I'm so worried I'm going to mess something up. LOL I'm not the smartest nut in the tree especially when it comes to anything about computers. So I am definitely going to follow your suggestion about the flash drive, I actually know how to use that :)
I just didn't think of it. Like I said not the smartest nut in the tree. :)

Cheers

Congrats on the new machine, Bowlady1955

For those valuable photos, I strongly recommend you create an external backup of some kind. Burn them to a DVD, copy them to a flash drive, or upload them to cloud storage. For anything besides cloud storage, keeping a backup somewhere else (friend, relative, safe deposit box, etc.) would also be a good idea. That might sound like overkill, but in a natural disaster, you might not have time to take a backup you keep in your house with you.

Even for data that isn't as precious, a backup routine is a good idea. I had a hard drive fail on me several months ago, and I lost everything on it. Luckily most of my important stuff wasn't stored on that hard drive, but it was a major wakeup call. I've now got automated backups running. It was a pain to set that up, but when I think of what I could have lost if a different hard drive had failed, it was totally worth the effort.

Anyway, I hope you're enjoying your new computer.
