Infinite script errors. Game absolutely destroyed

Post by marianito10 » November 7th, 2018, 8:17 am

Hello.. Today I had to clean my cache to install a mod. I did this and apparently there was a ".package" file that needed a cache file to work, so my game wouldn't open after that (the package was made with "CASP editor", which is a tool that allows you to block elements from CAS). Ok, when I removed that package file I could enter the game without problems. The thing is that when I loaded a save I got an infinite set of "ErrorTrap, Go Here", etc errors with the names of the civilians in my town, and I also couldn't do anything with my sims (when I clicked to make them do something, their head wouldn't even show). In fact, every sim of the neighborhood was getting deleted after those infinite errors.

I tried with a different save, deleting the packages folder, erasing the whole "Sims 3" folder in My Documents, all to no avail. Even with a clean version of The Sims, the game is still unplayable.

At this point the only step left that I know is reinstalling, but I don't want to give up.

Infinite script errors. Game absolutely destroyed

Hi there. I think we need some clarification here in order to help figure out what's gone wrong. When we speak of clearing the cache files, typically we are talking about the five files on the top level of the TS3 user game folder in Documents only, not any of the others, and doing so should always be perfectly safe. There really isn't any such thing as a package file in Mods\Packages, which would include CASP Editor output, that would be reliant on these caches staying in place. We do know that replacing cache files with stale versions of them can cause everything to break but that doesn't at all sound like what was done here.

Are these the files you deleted or were there more?
CasPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
scriptCache.package (this is usually the important one to clear when installing a mod)
simCompositorCache.package
socialCache.package

Some players also delete the WordCache files. This step is usually not necessary and should never be done if you happen to be on the Mac version of the game.

On the meltdown you are now getting, is this only for particular saved games or only for a particular world? Can you start a new test game from where you are now, in a different world? It might also help if we could see some samples of these script error logs on an existing save, if you could zip some together and upload them to this site using the Upload button at the top menu of this screen or by sending them up to a third party file host and providing a link so we can take a look.

Note that what you have described, adding a mod, clearing the caches, etc. only concerns the TS3 user game folder in Documents. Reinstalling only concerns the Program Files and is not likely to help as the Program Files tend to never change with usage over time, so I wouldn't recommend taking that drastic step just yet.

Thanks for answering. First thing, I cleared the cache files with Delphy's Framework tool (I've been doing this for years, without major issues).. Also the problem happens in every save and every world. Even if I erase the entire "Sims 3" folder in My Documents and  let the game create a new folder and a a new, clean world, the game still isn't working correctly (Sims can't even move properly, they kind of "teleport" around when you give them an order, the head in the popup menu is invisible, etc).

I'm going to use Error Trap with this new clean save as soon as I'm on my PC and then I'll upload it here.

Here are the logs, I divided them in "Old save" (the one with all my mods, etc) and "New Save" (a totally clean, vanilla one):

You have a number of very detrimental things going on all at once there.

1 - Delphy's Framework Installer, also I believe at one point called the "Monkey Helper," is for setting up the Framework the "Old Way," in the Program Files, and with a required (now also outdated) Resource.cfg file and and a .dll file change. This hasn't been a supported structure since before Patch 1.12 came out sometime in 2010. NRaas mods in particular are not supportable on this structure.

If you actually still have that structure in place, here are instructions on how to get rid of the "Old" style Framework.
http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=G ... to_New_Way

And how to convert to the New Way, although this is already linked to within the above page.
http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=G ... _and_Files

Some players insist on keeping the old structure anyway. Am afraid they are then on their own as today's NRaas mods, especially ErrorTrap as that one is a Core Mod, while not designed to be disruptive on purpose just don't work properly that way anymore. MasterController isn't known for being very happy with that structure either. If the above instructions on removing the Framework from where I believe it would currently be now Program Files are not successful in getting the game working again (although the steps should work), then yes a total uninstall, registry clean, and reinstall would be in order.

I have no idea what Delphy's Framework would do with cache files if you were already on the new structure.

2 - You have some outdated NRaas mods in your Old Save game folder. StoryProgression in particular is a version from many years ago, about 12 versions behind the currently one, and is not compatible with your game's patch level. Careers, MasterController and its add-on modules, GoHere, Register, and Traveler are all also older versions and should be updated, although not as critically far behind as SP.

3 - We can't see the versions of other mods that are showing up there, and of course not at all for mods you may have that ErrorTrap is not identifying. For purposes of troubleshooting and getting your game working again, I would suggest setting non-NRaas mods aside for now but especially More Sims in Clubs (MSC) and the Violence and Aggression mod. When it becomes time to add those back in again, you will want to make sure they are most recent versions of each.

4 - I'm also seeing assorted other errors involving routing and Imaginary Friends probably stuck in mailboxes, but the unsupported Framework and the outdated mods makes it difficult to separate those out right now so it would be best to worry about these less critical types of errors until things are working better again.

I'm sorry for the confusion there. The tool's name is Delphy's Sims 3 Dashboard, and I only use it to clear these caches with more ease:
CASPartCache, compositorCache, scriptCache, simCompositorCache, and the Thumbnails folder.
All of these in My Documents/EA/TS3. It's the only thing that I've been using this tool for and, as far as I know, it's the only thing that it does.

I'll move my old folder back and separate the mods that you mentioned and make sure that all my NRaas mods are the newer ones, and see what happens.....

And about the imaginary friends.. I always ignored the notifications showing up. I should've done something about them before all this tbh, because I never used them and they were stacking in my saves.

Problem is still there...... I load/create a save, get infinite errors, and every sim of the town dissapears. Some of them are in T-Pose before dissapearing completely, if I may add.

I had a theory at some point that maybe the problem could originate from the Program Files/Sims 3 folder, but all of the files in there are untouched from way before I had this issue. There isn't a new file or a modified file from the last days that I could identify as the problem.

Bear with me here, as I am still recovering from having delivered that entire lecture about The Monkey Helper unnecessarily. I know you didn't make that mistake on purpose, but guess I should have started with "Delphy's Framework Installer Helper, really?" to make sure before going down that road.

Let's take a different approach here, then. What new or modified files, if any, have you ever added to the Program Files\Sims 3 folder even if way before the problem started showing up? With very few exceptions (an HQ type of mod maybe or some EP world fixes, or the one time sgr file edits for graphics card recognition), nothing should ever go there that the game installers and the patches did not put there themselves.

Second set of questions, I can see that you are on Patch 1.67. What kind of install is this, retail disc (from an EA authorized retailer) or from some other source? Any third party hacks in play such as the Utlimate Fix or anything from G4TW or similar sites?

Most of the files I added/modified there (aside from editing the graphics files and Reshade) were executables to limit the FPS, like 3booter or FPSLimiter. I forgot that they were even there, and considering now they're useless because of Nvidia Control Panel I erased them.

Also the disks were from a friend who "lend" them to me a while back, and I still have them. He probably got them from an alternate source... And for the third party hacks (more specifically the "Ultimate Fix"), I didn't have any of that until today. I tried that "Ultimate Fix" (out of desperation )  from the G4TW site but it didn't work either.

Here's a screenshot, just in case:

What I was really trying to figure out is if this is a "legitimate" install or if the discs were part of an unofficial collection such as might be compiled, burned to disc, and sold by an unauthorized party rather than the official ones made by EA.

It should probably go without saying that usage of the Ultimate Fix renders the game not supportable here but I understand that must have been a last ditch effort. For whatever reason, I suspect that an uninstall, registry clean, and reinstall would indeed be called for.
