Won't go beyond opening a window

Post by TittilateMyTasteBuds » October 28th, 2018, 12:23 am

My game has not been allowing me to get anywhere beyond opening up a window. I changed the options out of fullscreen to achieve that, but before that I would have to restart my computer any time I tried to start the Sims. Now when I try to start it in windowed mode, a window will pull up, but it is completely black and doesn't respond at all. I installed some new mods recently, but I removed them and the game is still not working right. I tried reading through the error logs, but could not figure it out for the life of me.

Here is the dropbox with all the error scripts (and some other files, I didn't really know what would be needed). https://www.dropbox.com/sh/91krz5igeu3y ... cDxwa?dl=0

Any help would greatly appreciated!

Won't go beyond opening a window

Hi there. First of all, please confirm for us if you could that you have the Steam/1.67 version of ErrorTrap v100 and not the Origin or Patch 1.69 versions. If the game is trying to display the core version mismatch error on startup (and failing to even display it in windowed mode), this might be the cause of the game getting stuck.

Also on the black window at startup, are you certain that this isn't just where your DCCache (sims3pack) Launcher installed content is loading and if you leave it alone long enough it doesn't just move on from there?

If that's not it and the game is just not going to cooperate with you in windowed mode, you may want to try Windowed Borderless Gaming. Many have had success with that, especially on Win 10.

Your script logs suggest that you may have or had some mods from sources other that NRaas that are not identifying themselves and that are outdated or incompatible with your patch level. In particular, anything having to do with sims sharing beds or idle animations. The world lot routing issues on startup are usually not critical but can be eased if you add in NRaas GoHere.

Generally speaking we do not need to see crash logs, memory dumps, or the Sims3Logs.xml as they tend to be useless. In this case the only helpful information I could get out of them was that you are running a Steam install.

Won't go beyond opening a window

Okay, so I set up the Sims 3 for my now fiancee a couple years ago and I am guranteed using an outdated patch for the erro trap. I tried downloading the updated version for 1.67 so it would be compatible with steam, but the link keeps telling me,
  • Processing...
  • Network error, Please try again.
I tried downloading the other version just to check that I wasn't having network issues, and that one downloaded fine. Is there another link to download a more up-to-date version of error trap?

In regard to being sure if it is not responding or just installing mods, I let it attempt to start over night and had no such luck.
In regard to the other mods, those would be from my fiancee and I will need to check with her on which could be outdated.
In regard to windowed borderless, I am going to try that right now and will edit this post in just a moment.
edit: fullscreen windowed borderless did not work. The program wouldn't even respond to attempts to actually make it fullscreen.

Thank you for your help!

I tried downloading ErrorTrap for Steam just now, and although I saw the network error, the file did download.  (I clicked directly on the Steam logo, not Patch 1.67.)  If you can't access it, though, I can upload it to Mediafire and send you the link.  (Normally I wouldn't, but I think the admins have enough to deal with here as it is.)

The site is having load balancing issues caused by far too much unintended activity that are being addressed. We ask for patience until things work closer to as they should, but in the meantime some features will not work reliably and there will be downright outages sporadically.
announcements/topic6385

If you can get the game to startup correctly on a freshly generated game folder with no mods other than up to date NRaas ones and start a new test game in let's say Sunset Valley with things running properly, then we know at least some of these issues are being caused by the mods from other sources. But ErrorTrap being the correct version is pretty critical, the ones for patch levels older than 1.66 will not only falter but could stand to corrupt any ongoing game save they work with.

@puzzladdict: if you could, that would be awesome! But if not, it's alright, too. I realized the other day that if the errortrap is out of date, guranteed the rest of my NRaas mods are out of date, too.
edit: I'm dumb and didn't read your comment right. I clicked the steam button and it worked. I swear I'm not this stupid normally

@igazor: The files are still having difficulty (understandable) downloading, so I haven't had the chance to update them yet, but I did isolate the problem. And it's definitely a neck-slapper. My fiancee had downloaded a sims 4 package accidentally and tried putting it in sims 3. I didn't notice it in my first couple of checks because it didn't look any different from the other mods. I pulled it out and it took care of the problem. Once the files here are running well again I will have to come back and update all of the mods.
