Romantic Interactions

Post by Redbunny12 » October 7th, 2018, 2:12 pm

Hello all. I'm hoping someone can help me with my Sims 3 issue. My married Sims have lost their romantic interactions. When I click on the Sim and click the romantic icon, the only option is to "take romantic photo together." All other options to woohoo etc are not there. If I try to get them to woohoo in the shower etc, the option is greyed out. My sims' relationship bar is full. I can temporarily solve the problem by moving the Sims to the bin, copying the family and moving them back into the house again, but this is only a temporary fix and this loses all their relationships etc. I previously had some mods installed, and have since removed them hoping to fix the problem, but this has not worked. The mods were installed some time ago, so am struggling to remember exactly what I had, but am fairly confident it was only Master Controller. I am not very tech-savvy, so it would have been the most basic package I could find! I did it originally to restore some Sims relationships which got lost. I have also tried deleting my Cache files with no success. Is this something anyone can help with please? I would really appreciate it! Thank you.

Do or did you have Woohooer in play? If so, this issue is very common.

By default, there is a setting there on NRaas > Woohooer > General > Link to Story Progression > (True by default) that requires explicit caste support on each age stage caste in StoryProgession to keep the Romantic Menu options in play. Or, the other way to approach this, is to change the Link to False.

The version of Woohooer currently in beta testing has this link set to False by default because of the confusion it tends to cause; it's happened to me as well and I still play with the link on False myself.

MasterController would have had no impact here. It does not change gameplay, although a very complex mod it is really a player controlled command center and sits idle not doing anything when its functions are not called upon.

Thank you for this. I have now reinstalled Master Controller as well as Woohooer and set the link to false as you suggest, but this has still not worked. It was not Woohooer that I had before - I do not recognise it at all. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you.

I should mention that this only seems to be an issue with one family .

Now that you have Woohooer installed, try this with the game paused. On City Hall or an in-game computer, NRaas > Woohooer > General > Debugging > True. One thing this will do is unlock ALL possible romantic interactions so that they appear on the pie menus regardless of whether they are relevant to your sims or their current social situation. The ones that would not otherwise appear will be greyed out. If you hover your mouse over the ones that you expect to appear -- the simple lower level ones like Compliment Appearance, Flirt, Kiss, etc. -- what do you see on the tooltip that should appear as you hover the mouse over them?

You would want to switch the mod's debugging utility back to False again before really playing or else it will drag things down and keep generating endless romance related data reports that we don't need right now.

I have set the debugging to true as you suggest. When I hover over the lover level interactions in the pie menu for my Sim, it says "relation fail." I am very confused!

Okay thanks, I'm going to need our developer or someone else here who recognizes that one to chime in. My first thought is that Relation Fail means that your sims are blood-related so therefore there should be no Romance actions permitted between them unless you use Woohooer to allow close blood relations to be romantic. I take it they are not family even in a step-sibling kind of way (do they have parents perhaps who are now romantic couples or married to each other where they were not before)?

Ah that makes perfect sense! Due to story progression, their parents are now a couple! I wonder if there is a work around here? Perhaps I could set up woohooer to allow blood relations to be together? Bit weird I know!

It's always a relief to know that there is a logical explanation for some things that the game does and that something that feels like a glitch or a failure is really happening by design. Even if the design in this case can be deemed a bit silly -- eww I can't touch you now because your Mom and my Dad are dating (or married). You have stumbled into what we might call a Greg and Marsha Brady situation, the game is seeing your sims as step-silbings because of their parents' current relationship.

In order, because the ones near the top unlock those further down:
NRaas > Woohooer > Romance > Species:Human > Allow Near Relation Romance > True
NRaas > Woohooer > Romance > Species:Human > Allow Autonomous Near Relation Romance > True
NRaas > Woohooer > Woohoo > Species:Human > Allow Near Relation Woohoo > True
NRaas > Woohooer > Woohoo > Species:Human > Allow Autonomous Near Relation Woohoo > True (if you want this)

The problem is that there is no way to be selective about this and these steps will unlock Near Relation Romance and Woohoo for all related sims who are old enough to have romance -- that's YA or older and includes Teens on the woohoo part only if you allow that otherwise. The good news is that even with the unlocking, the game doesn't really foster near relation romance and kind of fights against it so it's not like you would be creating a real free-for-all across the town. But it may be unsettling to see sims even attracted to those whom you would rather they not be and have options on the pie menus that you would rather not see.

The other way is, sadly, to step in with MasterController and break up the parents' relationship or fix it so that one of the parents is not really any longer the parent of their grown child.

Hi Igazor, - this has worked! Turns out it was quite simple in the end. My sim now fancies his Grandma, but you can't have everything! I will disable the feature once I move onto the next generation. Thank you so much for all your help with this - you seem to know your stuff!
