Tempest: Please help

Post by JohnL83 » October 5th, 2018, 2:38 pm

First off, I know there is a spot for this subject in mod disucssion, but I can't seem to access it or post anything there just yet. I know our Admin & others here are working hard to get everything going so I'm assuming this is already known. BTW I am liking the site a lot so far. Thanks to everyone involved, you all are awesome!
I would really love a quick lesson on how this mod works. I really don't get what a lot of the stuff does and I have tried a few things out to some odd results.  So I reset to default.
What I would like is for it to rain less often during my summer months. I'm fine with Autumn and Spring being a bit more rainy since where I live this is usually the case. Anyway, could someone please give me an idea of what it would look like to lessen the amount of rain-storms during summer? I'm not so worried about intensity, though varying degrees would be nice there too. Maybe cut the amount of rainy days by half of what is as default would be nice?  If I can see what this would look like perhaps I will get a better idea of what setting does what and I can adjust if nessessary.
I have my summer seaons maxed out to 28 days. Spring and Fall are only 10 days and Winter is 14. Not sure if this info is needed, but there it is just in case.

Part of the challenge here is that mods' Interactions pages are still being worked on as they did not survive the transition as they were. I can provide some suggestions the next time I am in-game and actually have the mod's menus to look at, but in the meantime maybe other Tempest enthusiasts can do better.

Hi John,

I'm not sure if this will help but here's a link to my Tempest settings on my tumblr:-
https://simsarahsarah.tumblr.com/tempest

If you scroll down the page, you'll notice two bolded entries like this:-
  • Weather: Rain > Duration = 2:3
under the sub-headings of "Weather > Fall > Default" and "Weather > Winter > Default". This is how I reduced the duration of the rain during Fall and Winter so my belief is, if you apply those settings to Summer, that should reduce the rain to between 2 to 3 hours per day but I don't think it will reduce the number of days that it rains during Summer. Obviously feel free to read the rest of the page too as it might shed some more light on the settings for you. :-)

The Wayback Machine has an archive of the old Wikispaces site, including the Tempest Interactions page. I'd include a link, but having just joined 5 minutes ago, that might make me look like a spammer.

Tropical Insomniac - What a helpful idea, thanks for suggesting that. For those who do wish to try this as an interim solution, you will want to select capture dates prior to Feb 2018 or else you will keep landing on pages that say Farewell and the banner telling you that the wiki will be shutting down may cause the archived browser screen to keep flashing (at least the later ones did that to me just now, that could just be a browser issue).

This isn't the EA forums by the way, we don't have any restrictions on new members. Though we do appreciate not being abused, for whatever that's worth. :)

After all the enjoyment I've gotten out of the NRAAS mods and help I've gotten from the articles on the site, I'm glad to help out in any ways I can, however small.

It's very cool that y'all are still so trusting of new folks. I hope the bad people on the Net never manage to change that about this place.

In addition to Sarah_Sims' suggestion, I increase the duration of sunny weather in summer.  That seems to help the frequency of rain and hail in my experience.

What I don't quite understand is what number is what?  So you have 2:3 - what does that mean? If I know what the numbers stand for I would understand better. The two is what number of sim hours? well then what is the 3? I'm sure I'm going to feel stupid once this is explained, but I'm just not understanding a lot of the games mechanics. I'd love to do more with my games in that regard but I am just so lost on some things. :-(
Also, I looked at Sarah Sims page and I don't even get what she's done there. I don't see how to change the name of holidays, what line do I click to get that to come up?

When a tuning value in this game is expressed as x:y, it means a range is being specified. So 2:3 in that context means two to three sim hours. Thus each rain shower will last 2 sim hours or longer but no more than 3 sim hours.

A more clear example, perhaps, would be found in temperature ranges. If Summer afteroons are set to 70:110, that means the temperature will stay in a range from 70 to 110 degrees (F) at all times in the afternoons.

Tempest cannot change the names of holidays. As Sarah indicates on her blog page, another mod is required for that and she provides a link for it. The mod must then be altered in S3PE if you want names other than the ones it provides by default.
