Regenerate Lot Imposter (MC v133b)

Post by igazor » April 5th, 2015, 11:11 am

After recommending this version to a player who already uses MC (stable) and who was suddenly more than distressed by the low LOD bug, I decided to try it out for myself on my sims' active lot even though I wasn't currently suffering from this problem and it doesn't bother me too much when it does arise. Here were the effects I observed.

1 - It was always difficult to see this house in Map View. I guess that continued to be okay. But in Live Mode, the walls of the outside of the house looked unfinished all the way around.

2 - My actives were still inside all sleeping, but I was locked out of viewing the house's interior as if it were an inactive's house. At one point after running the game clock for a while, I was able to get inside, but all the walls and floors were missing. Then the next time I zoomed out and back in, I was locked out again.

3 - MC Resetting the lot did not help.

4 - There was another residential lot down the street that I happened to have left as MC > Opened. I was locked out of that one as well.

5 - I had saved the game after the Regenerate Imposter command but before the MC Reset. Quit, cleared caches, reloaded that save. The household thumbnail on the Select a Game to Play screen had everyone in the same position as before, but rotated almost 90 degrees to the right, so they were all looking off to the side in that pic. Insignificant I suppose, but unexpected and kind of amusing.

But both my active lot and the MC Open one were fine upon reload, the house's exterior paneling returned, I could zoom right in, my sims just slept through the whole thing. Is this what is expected if one invokes that command on an active residential lot and doesn't realize they have to save, quit, and reload or was my game being "special"?

In the interest of total disclosure: I had just upgraded my video card's drivers for the first time the other day (it's a rare day when AMD releases a special update for Bootcamp users esp on a 3 yr old model!), though I have since loaded up and saved a couple of brief test games, unmangled the graphics and game options, etc. Not relevant?

I didn't have a lot that suffered from the issue to test the function on so I can't say for sure. I did not try running it on the active lot but running it on inactive lots seemed to work okay. It's the same function the game runs when you build/buy so not sure why it'd act differently. Although pondering it, perhaps running it on lots that are in high detail is not a good idea. Let me try it.

I just logged in to report something that seems related, using version 133c. I had sent my family to Egypt and one of the vacation homes that I had added there was invisible from Map View. My family was staying at the Base Camp btw. I ran "Regenerate Lot Imposter" on that vacation home and suddenly the whole map became unusable. All residential and community lots went into low detail mode. I couldn't click on the ground, for example, and all that showed up in the interaction menus were the NRaas menu and "Visit Lot", as if I was in Map View. I had to save and reload and then it was back to normal again.

Haven't had time to test this one yet but from the reports it may need to be removed. :)

Alright, I was able to reproduce the issue. I was able to recover other lots by sending the active Sim there. The active lot was recovered by running the command on it. And yes, saving and reloading fixes it all. I'm not sure if the command is worth all the trouble when it's much easier to just enter build/buy on the affected lot and back out thus saving you from having to reload the whole game. I'm also not sure if it's fixable as it's an engine command and all I can do is call it, not see what it's actually doing. I may be able to get the lots back by opening/closing them all. If not, it'll bite the dust. :)
