Compatibility with Register and SP Careers?

Role Sims, homeless, service Sims, oh my. Something tells me we're not in Sunset Valley anymore.

Compatibility with Register and SP Careers?

Post by tamalinn » September 19th, 2015, 7:11 pm

I use Register and SP Careers in my game. When I assign chefs and waiters, they keep getting nabbed by the game for other duties. And then I can't assign (or I can't figure out how to assign) sims registered as retired to be chefs or waiters. Is there a way to set it up so that my restaurant staff stops getting hired out from under me?

Hi tamalinn, nice to see you over here!

Strange, I'm not having this problem. My assigned chefs and waiters stay put and do not get dragged into other careers or positions. What I can't remember offhand is if I gave them the Retired designation myself using MasterController or possibly the Careers Mod's Unemployed placeholder career (it's an add-on module). Though if Register is controlling their assignments in the Bistro, none of this should really matter. Are these sims residents as opposed to homeless NPCs and do you ever make these sims' households active, because doing so can cause them to lose their Register Role assignments almost right away and then the game would see them as loose cannons looking for work.

Also, what flavor of StoryProgression are you using -- NRaas, EA's, something else?

Hola! I use NRaas SP. I don't know why Register keeps yanking my chefs and waiters to be mixologists or bouncers. But it's, like, this constant thing. I've never made their households active. These are sims who emigrated in order to fill open roles; I don't know if they're homeless. Overwatch is supposed to chase all my homeless away every night, so if these sims are homeless, they move back into town every day.

Hmm. I didn't realize you meant they were being assigned new Register Role Sim positions, sorry I thought you meant regular careers. So SP wouldn't be doing that, it would be Register as you said. And they can't be homeless if they are sticking around after Overwatch's cleanup as that would take them out of your game for good and new homeless sims would spawn, as needed. But to check this, perhaps try to MC > Focus on one when they aren't working and you would expect them to be at "home." Or use MC to make one Go Home when they aren't working and follow them. Are they off the map (therefore impossible to focus upon), cowering in a LN apartment type hidden unit, or do they actually have a real house?

You could also try to use MC to make them active on a test run (quit but don't save afterwards). If they are homeless NPCs, that should be impossible.

If they are indeed residents, you could try NRaas > Register > Allow Resident Assignment > False which should stop Register from reassigning any resident sims to Role giving objects and then manage such assignments yourself, on a per object basis if you see any objects around town going unstaffed. But if you already had it set that way, then we have an even stranger issue. The issue might well be that Register does not recognize the bistro oven and menus or whatever it is as proper role assigned objects, and therefore considers these sims as unassigned, looking for something to do.

(looking over the documentation) Ah, I don't think Register sees those bistro positions as vaild role assignments at all, so it thinks your sims are unemployed. How about if you gave them the Unemployed custom career from the Careers mod as mentioned above, or gave them a self-employed career that they have no real intention of working on (painter, collector, anything) so that maybe Register will leave them alone?

I can try that.

I don't know squat about coding, but do you know if it would be difficult to make it interface with Register somehow, like Arsil's custom role desk and professional massage table do? I wonder if I could try to do it myself. I also want to figure out how to make Ani's Shop for Clothes mod (not the pedestal one) work with Master Controller's CAS. I have too much stuff in my game; the compact version of CAS doesn't crash, and I miss clothes shopping. Into the Future constantly crashed on my Mac. I finally gave up and uninstalled it.

@tamalinn: What igazor is suggesting is exactly what I have done. I have an open school set up with the Bistro oven in the canteen which is only open for the school lunch time (1200hrs to 1400hrs). The Sim that operates the oven (as chef) is also in the Homemaker career so she gets money from both jobs. It works flawlessly and gives her a decent income to support her three kids. :-)

Ah, sorry, forget to mention I'm using Ani's Business As Unusual Bistro Oven mod to do the above. Not sure how it would work with the EA version. :-)

@Sarah_Sims, I don't use the EA version. I only use Ani's. Also, I have the SP Careers mod installed; I'll have to see which add-ons I've got. @Igazor has a great idea; I just wanted to figure out how to get the mod to do it for me. Although considering the chef should probably have some cooking skill, it's probably just as well that Register doesn't automatically assign the role.

Ani's version is the best one (imo)! :D

I don't believe the Bistro Oven, or the Baker's Oven, for that matter, are considered role objects by EA, as they are designed to be operated primarily by your active sim. Register is intended to work with role objects only.

Someone may come along and correct me on that if I'm wrong but that's the way I see those objects. :-)
