Change Mermaid top?

Post by D-zap » November 19th, 2015, 12:13 pm

Would it be possible to add a function to change the Mermaid's top?

I have been fumbling around with workarounds to change it myself. I used this: http://modthesims.info/t/507392 . Using the above thread as a guideline, I had the same problem GnatGoSplat encountered: Changing the mermaid outfit using MC's Stylist broke the animation and the outfit (my Sim used the normal swimming animation, not the mermaid one). Afterward, the Sim could not switch to the mermaid outfit until I used Set Scale Color to generate a new one.

Using GnatGoSplat's solution, I installed AwesomeMod in an attempt to circumvent the apparent issue MC's Stylist caused. I created a new outfit, mermaid tail and all and tried using the 'outfitcp' command to copy it to the corresponding Special outfit (Special.6 at the time). Alas, AwesomeMod gave me a "Cannot copy to unregistered Special outfit slot" error.

Neither workaround sufficient and too reluctant to visit the MATY forums for help, I've arrived here.
Is it feasible to add a function to directly change what top is used on a mermaid? Did I miss MC's (or another NRAAS mod's) option to copy an outfit to another slot?

Hi there, and welcome to NRaas,

I remember a time when we had in MC more control over the Special Outfits sims were wearing, but this was before we had different Occults within our games.

These special outfits were back then well documented and therefor with Custom Coding easily to change (ahem within gameplay, coding might have been a tad difficult to approach). But with the increased Role Types and Occult Types, the documentation within the core files with these types weren't anywhere listed anymore so such Special Outfits wasn't easily found.

Without able to pinpoint the exact ID of the SIMO file (special outfit) within the game core to stop the game from imposing certain outfits on Occult Sims any changes you are trying to make, will probably revert it self to the base clothing of such Occult Type or might as well damage the Sim in certain ways as you have experienced. Reasons why those slots aren't available within CAS and not recommended to change.

However if you wish to try to change it (though you are warned), click on your Mermaid Sim> NRaas> MC> Basic> Outfit and change it into the Special Outfit of mermaids. Then once they spun, click Sim again> NRaas> MC> Stylist.
Although it says in CAS/Stylist slot one, you are basically in the Special Outfit slot of that Mermaid.

That's how you approach them, but again, if its wise to try to change it. Not sure, but there is a reason why those slots are not showing.

For reference, what I have been trying previously is the following:
1. Have Mermaid Sim enter pool wearing Swimwear
2. Sim spins and switches into Mermaid outfit
3. I use MC > Stylist to try and change the outfit
4. Changes made, I confirm and return to the game
5. Sim now swims in place using Mermaid animation, but swimming from one point to another using normal animations (and the graphical glitches that ensue)
6. After getting out of pool (and manually switching back to sensible swimwear), I send Sim back into pool
7. Sim spins, but stays in Swimwear and uses normal animations across the board

If I'm understanding this correctly, you're suggesting I force my Sim into the Mermaid Outfit BEFORE sending them into the pool at step 1.
I can't test immediately, but I'll get back to you once I've had some time.

Thank you so far!

Incorrect, what I am suggesting is not to change those special outfits at all.

What you need to understand is that Occults have special outfits gathered in an unknown Special Outfit file (SIMO), that pulls special assigned CAS-parts onto such Occults those you see in CAS. Since we don't have a list which SIMO file belongs to which special outfit, there is no guarantee to be able to change pre-designed Occults CAS-parts and that they will stick onto such Sim or whatever kind of effects it may cause.

What about the 'outfitcp' command AwesomeMod offers? Is there an option somewhere in the Nraas mods that replicates its functionality? The instance in AwesomeMod gave me an error, does this mean it's absolutely impossible to jury-rig a workaround?

No clue what that command does and you ought to remember that Awesome Mod is a Core Mod (which is a complete re-write of the EA's Scripting Core used by the game). So is it an EA debug command or an Awesome mod debugging command?

Within in our suite we only have ErrorTrap and UntranlsatedKey as Core mod and I believe they do something else than Awesome mod. All other mods are Pure Scripting mods that uses the existing Script Core.

Though our coder would probably know how to answer your question, I believe he had used Awesome before.

As to why Awesome mod is malfunctioning onto that command, perhaps you should ask that on MATY how reluctant you may be as it's not a generic debug command used by EA.
There are some posts about it, but the information might be outdated as to our present patch version level 1.67 ~1.69.
