Can I designate a school as private?

Post by Tommee1 » September 22nd, 2018, 5:56 pm

Hi, I have 2 public schools that I made, a high school and elementary school that I marked as public schools in one of the mods. I have placed the Par Excellence Prep School also, can I mark that one as the private school?

Not exactly, no. SP allows us to designate which schools are to be considered public and which are private by type of school, not by individual lot or building. So if you were to make "regular" EA elementary or high schools private, then all regular elementary or high schools would become so. We get more flexibility with the Careers mod's Schools module specialty schools. For example, the arts or military schools (for children) could be designated as private and/or any of the five types of schools for teens.

If what you are after are required school uniforms and fees, I don't think there is any way to do that selectively working strictly with regular EA school rabbit holes. But if you want restricted enrollment by lot/building, that can be done even if they will all still be considered public schools. To accomplish that, we would use SP Lot Options to caste restrict the ones to be made more exclusive by net worth, gender, age, whatever other attributes are wanted. The presence of the GoHere mod is required for this to work correctly.

Ok so I have all appropriate mods. I have a High Tax Bracket Caste and all those children and teens which that caste also have the private school caste. I did not do anything that I can figure to give them the private school caste but I looked and saw that they have it. The Par Excellence Prep school is set to require the caste High Tax Bracket. If I wait I will see, but since my game clock is "Relativity" slowed down, but do you know if those kids and teens will automatically go to the Prep school? Are you saying that they will not have the fee for private school removed from their family funds?

The built-in Public and Private School castes are not going to help here. The requirements for those by default would be that the sims have Allow Public (or Private) Schools enabled on their SP Sim Options.

But I'll try to say this again. An EA regular school cannot be private selectively. Either all elementary (or high) schools are public or they are all private. Thus all of them have no fees associated with them or they all do have fees. What we can do is specify the Careers mod specialty schools to be public or private, not EA schools. The Careers mod schools are the ones that convene at other rabbit holes around town (science and the Science Center, arts at the Community Theatre, etc.). Am talking about the Careers mod and its Schools add-on here, not the SP Career add-on module.

Anyway, if you have Lot Options restricted the new school to your High Tax Bracket caste, that should mean than maybe some sims who meet that requirement will register there when they age up to child or teen or move into town, not that they will switch schools mid-stream. And they won't necessarily do that unless you restrict the other schools to those of lower net worth. In order to force re-registration, you would have to bulldoze and replace both schools (this takes a couple of tries sometimes), and all children and teens will have their school performance scores reset to 0. Or to get things started you could manually move the kids you want over to the new school using MC > (Sim) > Intermediate > Career > Choose School, with the same loss of school performance on those moved over. But sims will not re-register for a school in the middle of their educational careers unless they have a really good reason for doing so (like their school no longer exists, not because of Lot Options).

Thanks I just wondered what the game would push them to do since they were automatically given the private school caste.

That can be confusing, I admit. And hopefully not pushed to do much since I just looked in my own game and the Public and Private School castes that I honestly never paid much attention to besides having overlap both have puppies and kittens in them. But hey, I guess they deserve a quality tax payer funded education (or a privately funded one, as the case may be) like anyone else and they can't do any worse scholastically than some of the kids I went to school with in a prior century. :)

Since this question thread talks about public and private schools, let me ask here.
How do we or is it possible for us to make private school, the specialty school like, "Careers School Phase Eleven" ?
Or is this topic that I have to make question thread to ask?

@bn4mt - NRaas > SP > General Options > Options:Careers > Options:School > Consider Public School and you will see the list of types of schools in your current world. If they aren't public, then they are private. The seven Careers mod specialty schools should all be private by default.

There is nothing to "make." If you have the Careers base mod and the Careers Schools add-on module, then the schools are already there. The children's music school is at the Community Theatre (I said "arts" further up this thread, but I meant music). The teens' science school is at the Science Center, etc. The same rabbit holes that house the careers will house the specialty schools.
