I'm setting up a restaurant using the Business as Unusual Bistro mod, which allows for the hiring of waiters for the bistro oven. I wanted only the cook and waiters to access the kitchen, so I set the kitchen door filter type to "Allow" and enabled the Role Sims filter. But this only let the cook use the door, not the waiters. Checking the list of allowed sims for the door confirmed that only the cook was listed.
Is this a bug?

Not positive, but I think the chefs are being seen as sims allowed to use the doors regardless of restrictions because they are tied to an industrial oven inside, not because of the filter, whereas the waiters are not. It's been a while since I've played around with the bistro, so I might not be remembering this correctly. Could you not use a different criterion on the door or specify the sims to be allowed into the kitchen by name?

@Chain_Reaction
1. What makes the bistro oven not a role object?
2. Since the chef can be tied to it (and therefore can use the door), is this possible for waiters too?
3. Can the bistro oven be made to work with Register?
I did end up using EA's Specify Sims as a workaround, but it's not ideal since the list of sims allowed would have to be updated manually if any of the chef/waiters die or emigrate, etc.

Sorry to answer for Chain, but the answer is because it isn't classified that way. Even if the sims working in the kitchens were Role Sims though, using that as a criterion is not ideal either because it seems like other Role Sims who may be off duty at the time and visiting the Bistro would also be allowed in. I had the same problem trying to use the door filters and Homeless as a filter on a different kind of lot, of course other homeless sims I had no intention of letting into the staff area could go right in. That's just an example, because in this case the chef and/or waiters don't have to be homeless.
Register does not work with premium store set content at this time -- it can't do a thing with Bakery cashiers either. It doesn't work with mod-created staff positions either, unless the mod developer specifically structured the positions that way like Arsil did with his Custom Generic Role mod (which won't do what you want in this case).
Since you would probably want to reassign the staff positions yourself after turnover due to death or emigration anyway (just assuming), the door restriction adjustment would just be an extra step to take at the time.

I don't know if this would help or not.

We already know that the OP is using Ani's mod (you're pointing right back to the version here on this wiki that we are discussing). As I recall, besides not working well in many instances, the unmodded version doesn't have separate sims for the chef and waiter assignments. It's Ani's mod that, among other things, separates them.
