Errors with time-travel portal after installing MasterController (+MC Cheats)

Post by rainbow-splosion » August 25th, 2017, 10:44 am

I've ALWAYS had issues with the portal, but when I first bought ITF, I had so many mods installed already that I couldn't be bothered to narrow down which one(s) might be causing issues. I did a fresh install of my game/EPs (for reasons unrelated to this problem) yesterday, and now that that's finished, I'm finally getting around to troubleshooting individual mods. The portal worked flawlessly until I booted with MC + Cheats, and now I'm back to having the same problems I was dealing with before. My sims can inspect the portal once it's placed, but once they're standing in front of it/it starts glowing they're essentially stuck like that--both the sim and the portal--and ErrorTrap starts spitting out error messages nonstop. (I let it sit for about a minute and by that time I had 100+ ErrorTrap-related notifications in the top-right.) The game will stay like that indefinitely unless I reset the sim and/or the portal. The time-traveling sim does not appear at all.

It looks like there were people in the thread below that were having the same problem, or very similar, but making a new world doesn't solve the problem for me. Also, the thread itself is very old so I don't know how outdated the solutions are:

I uploaded all of my ErrorTrap logs since they're not all exactly the same. I hadn't touched any MC settings yet (or any settings in other mods for that matter). In addition to the mods that the logs list, I also have some miscellaneous tuning files in place, but none of them have anything to do with the portal.

If anyone has any idea what the heck is going on, I'd love your help/input.

The linked to thread is not entirely relevant, unless you have TA'ed the Time Traveler. It's also from just after ITF was released.

Your game is having an impossible time trying to generate Emit, it's really the same error repeatedly. Can't say why this is happening or what MC would have to do with it. While we're waiting for a more informed answer, perhaps you could try this again with Traveler in place and see what happens? And perhaps a test run with NRaas mods only just to see if we should be ruling out external factors?

I have no idea why, but it seems installing Traveler was the solution. I didn't know it could affect NPCs--especially if they hadn't technically traveled to new wolds yet. I'm still a little wary since it seems like Emit still takes a while to show up (approximately how many sim-minutes should it normally take for him to get through the portal?) but he does get there eventually and I'm not getting ErrorTrap messages anymore, so I guess it's a good sign things are back on track. Thanks!

Traveler replaces travel transitions generally with more reliable ones. I believe that the newest versions step in and manage the Time Traveler scenarios as they are otherwise so prone to breakage. These are some pretty specific fixes, not relating to NPCs generally. Glad to hear that they helped. :)
