Is it possible to disable certain pushes for pets?

Post by budewarmin » August 6th, 2017, 6:42 pm

Is there a possibility to disable that pets visit community lots? I have seen it so often that a pet is walking home from a community lot that is all the way across town, a trip like that will take her a day at the speed she was going. I just reseted her, but is there a possibility to disable that pets visit community lots and take ages to return home?

Hi budewarmin - I am not aware of any mods to disable pets visiting community lots. Are you referring to pets such as animals owned by Residents? If so have you tried changing traits like Hunter and Independent and replace with Lazy or some other trait.

There are settings for strays and wildlife though. See How Do I Manage Strays And Wildlife On This Page. I am not sure how far reaching these settings go as far as domestic pets but my experience is the community lot settings might work for resident pets. I'm not seeing any of mine visiting community lots but then I just might not have noticed.

One other thing that comes to mind for resident pets is to put a fence around the yard and lock the gate using GoHere.

If there are some community lots in particular that seem to be drawing them in, and that shouldn't be, you could use SP Lot Options to caste restrict the critters from being pushed there in much the same way that many of us do for age or gender restricted schools, disallowing kids in bars, etc. The presence of GoHere is required for these lot caste restrictions to be effective at all.

Not sure I would want to do that for every commercial lot across town, but maybe some of them are heavier hitters for the animals' attention than others? And I think I would want some of them like parks to be attractive to pets (maybe consignment stores and salons not so much) though I could see where if these lots were too far from the pets' homes that I would just be promoting the problem stated rather than solving it. Maybe you need more evenly distributed animal friendly venues? :)

Thanks for the insight guys, are cats more inclined to be pushed to a cat jungle than other lots, say big park or hangout?

I can not speak for everyone but my experience with the cat jungle as well as the dog parks is I rarely ever saw a cats or dogs going to those lots on their own. I no longer have them in the worlds I play. I use SP lot options as igazor mentioned ^^ for some lots but mostly I manage them with traits and locking gates on their home lot. Strays are easily managed with Retuner.

Hmmm. I had a lot of trouble with pets in my Hangouts and Supernatural Hangout lots -- both pets showing up, which never seemed appropriate in pub-like buildings (maybe I'm just too American? Hah) and getting stuck and route-failing, since they often have different routing needs than humans.

I was able to fix this by banning animals from the lots, but I don't remember how. I don't play with GoHere since I discovered that it was borking my Halloweens, my Investigator profession, and my non-standard walk styles (I play with a several Plantsims and Playable Ghosts).

Some of those issues look like they've been attacked by Chain, so I might try that mod again, but I did find a solution without it. Not so much of a helpful comment, I guess.

Explain some of these issues so I'm sure I'm aware of them.

So I would need a combi with SP and GoHere for it to work? Is there a page on how to set it up somewhere on the site I can use?

All we are talking about here is, on the lot or lot tag in question, NRaas > SP > Lot Options > Caste:Disallow and select the caste of sims you do not want pushed to the lot or allowed to hang around on it.

You may need to create a caste for animals, I can never remember if they already have their own by default.

GoHere doesn't need any settings changed for this, it just has to be present for the game to honor SP's Lot Options restrictions as per above.
