Register - Merchants

Post by varusso » February 21st, 2017, 3:06 pm

City Hall> NRaas> Register> Service>

I can find Mixologist in there, but not Food Merchant or Book Merchant. I am in my homeworld, not a vacation world, but I have some registers on community lots. Not all all of my bars and registers are being populated with clerks, but some are. I found where to increase the pool size for mixologists, but cannot find any obvious option listed for any of the merchants.

The mod WAS filling some of the jobs with residents (I found where to turn that off, and I had probably assigned some of them myself when trying to fill the jobs as I was building the lots). I have nixed that and now have it set to fill jobs from immigrants only. But I am concerned there will not be a large enough pool for the merchants (there were only 2 bartenders to fill 5 or 6 bars).

On a side note, I assume "Is Recurring" in the Service type submenu only determines if a specific sim will return to a specific job (bartender, etc) at a specific object on a specific lot, as opposed to moving from one job/object/lot to another each day? If set to not recurring the object would "call" an available sim from the pool to cover it, assuming there ARE enough sims in the pool, correct?

IE: Bob works a shift as a bartender at my cafe. If set to "not recurring", a bartender will still show up each shift, but it may or may not be Bob, and Bob may get assigned to some other bar in town. If set to "recurring", Bob will always be the one that shows up. Is that correct?

Service Sims and Role Sims are two different classes of sims. The mixologist Service Sims referenced on the Service menu on City Hall, with the pool sizes and with or without recurring, are the ones you call to your house to work your own private bar at a party. Role Sims are the ones tied to role giving objects in town.

If Register is set to use immigrants to fill role giving positions, it should generate new sims for them if there isn't anyone in the pool already to assign. You can control who is assigned or unassigned to which object by clicking on the object itself and then the NRaas > Register menu on the object, not on City Hall.

It's also possible that your unstaffed role giving objects need to be reset as outlined here.

Ah that explains it. I knew the venue bartenders were role sims; I couldn't figure out why they were being listed under Service. I forgot "mixologists" are for private parties and part of the service staff (i almost never used mixologists in my parties; i used the resident lot lush :D ) Thats why I was looking for other role sims there as well.

I reset the lot and objects already when I changed settings in Register, so that's done. Game has been paused since, had to deal with RL stuff for a while. I will let the scenario run for a bit and see if everything corrects itself on the new work day, now that I know how it handles the Role Sims.

It has been a few sim days now, and things are going rapidly downhill. I found a couple of resident sims still assigned to registers and bars, so I unassigned them and removed them from Role. Now I only have 4 Role Sims in my entire town, yet I have more than a dozen Role Objects. I have Allow Immigrants = True and Allow Resident Assignment = False. I have reset the lots. I have deleted the objects and set new ones, then used Apply in the City Hall Register menu. I have reset the individual objects in buy mode using the SHIFT+CTRL pie menu (I dont have DebugEnabler installed right now, but I assume this is the same function call it uses). I have NRaas SP enabled. None of this has made any more Role Sims appear for days.

I see an interaction in Register under Options: Lots for an Immigration Gauge, but that appears to be solely for tuning how quickly I want new families to migrate into my town and unrelated to the Role Sim immigration. I am at a loss as to what to do next.

And to top it off, now my lots are packed again (yay!) but 2/3 of the inactive non-Role sims are literally just standing/sitting around -- not stuck, just not doing anything except complaining about energy/bladder to the point where they pass out or wet themselves. The whiners are feeding themselves, but then they just sit/stand there and do nothing else but complain and ignore their needs. One of them ate then sat at the table for over a day and griped at me LOL. The rest are happily using the multiple satisfaction objects on the lot (a couple are even snoozing in sarcophagi right now) as well as the rabbithole rugs. I had problems with some of this behavior before, but it went away. It has returned in spades since I enabled progression in SP. There's gotta be a setting or ten I am missing somewhere in all this that is causing these messes, right? :(

Options:Lots and the Immigration Gauge are part of SP, they have nothing to do with Register.

Click on one of the unstaffed role giving objects and pull up its Register menu. Does it show that a Role Sim is assigned to it and can you find them somewhere in town to tell why they aren't showing up for their assigned shift? If no one is assigned, is Enable Assignment switched on? Can you assign a sim to it manually using the Select command?

Sorry, but I think I'm burned out on the sims standing around and not tending to their needs or using the rest rooms and not at least chatting amongst themselves except to once again say this points to a performance issue of some kind that most of us on most venues (admittedly we don't usually put rabbit holes on them but that's probably not it) just do not see unless we have far too many sims on a lot at a time for the game to handle well.

Okay, one last stab at the performance issues. Using MC on City Hall, run NRaas > MC > Demographics > Population > X to dismiss the filter. I think we covered this already, but how many residents (not the others, just the residents) does this world have again?

And also please remind me, what are the specs of the computer you are playing on -- processor, RAM, graphics card?

I thought that was the case with the Gauge, thanks.

When I click on a Role Object, Register gives me the options to Disable Assignment or Select; there is no one assigned to it. If I click Disable, when I go through the pie menu again, it still offers Disable (I assume because there is no sim assigned). When I click select, I can manually add sims as normal but there are only 4 Role Sims to choose from -- the same 4 that are already assigned to other Role Objects.

I don't know if it is relevant, but the 2 sims that are assigned to Merchants show that their hunger/energy/bladder/hygiene are all static (as they should be per my changes in the Role Sim Caste) but none of their needs actually ARE static -- they continue to drop. Meanwhile, the bartenders (also with static needs from the caste changes) ARE actually static. Its like the system is disregarding the fact that they are part of the Role Sim Caste. For what its worth, I show 14 total role sims in town - 2 for merchants, 2 for bars, 10 for tourists, and that is unchanged for a few sim days now.

I dont blame you; I am about ready to fling my laptop across the room over this. I am not experiencing massive lag that would indicate the system is bogging down, and the sims that interact arent jerky or indecisive. I do have about 2 dozen or so sims on my mall lot again, but they were all interacting fine before I enabled SP to try and get register working.

I would have to say then that 24 sims on the same lot (this is all one lot or several in a row?) is too much for the game engine to handle well together with the overhead of SP then. Instead of lag, you are getting non-performance of several functions including Register not making any assignments and spawning sims where it should and again sims not tending to their needs or doing much of anything in many cases.

What is your resident population total again?

The lack of assigned role sims and additional immigrants was happening before I turned SP on; its WHY I enabled it, figuring maybe that was why the game wasnt generating immigrant labor. I had it installed and the castes were working, but I didnt have its progression enabled. SP is so huge, thats why I hesitated using it in the first place. I could definitely see the return of lobotomized sims being a symptom of strain due to SP though, knowing how intensive it can be.

Ummm dunno what my population is. I shut down the game and walked away for a while to cool off. I plan on taking a break for the rest of the night. Take a break and have a beer on me :) I am going to start trying to detangle this again tomorrow. I am still figuring out how the tools work, so whats the quickest way to check my town pop?
