Possible to "help" a service Sim find it's register?

Role Sims, homeless, service Sims, oh my. Something tells me we're not in Sunset Valley anymore.

Possible to "help" a service Sim find it's register?

Post by Abakuesse » January 27th, 2017, 6:27 am

Hi everyone. So I'm playing the custom world Beach City and the elixir consigment store is never open. I replaced the register. I have Register and Tagger (and SP, MC and several others). I know where the assigned clerk is and can watch him fail the routing. Can I somehow transport that sim who is a homeless service sim to that lot?

Hi there. Sorry to be pedantic, but that would be a Role Sim, not a Service Sim.

There are couple of common reasons for Register (or EA, even) assigned Role Sims to be unable to make it to their stations. One is that they just can't figure out how to route there -- there is a locked or stuck door, a break in the world lot, or something in their way. The other is that the Role Sim is due or overdue to age up and the push to go off-screen to do that in private is competing with the push to get to their register, thus leaving the sim standing still someplace unable to move very far.

Perhaps try using Register to assign a different Role Sim? Or, if you can get their age in MC and see that they are due or overdue for aging up, try shoving their age back down below the threshold with MC Cheats to see if that was the problem.

Hi igazor, thanks for the quick reply and I don't mind the correction at all, since I didn't know that before. This sim I mentioned is the newly assigned one. He spawns at the beach, jumps into a motorboat, steers around the first landscape obstacle, hops out and starts the cycle. I'll delete him and see if another sim is spawning elsewhere.

On a side note, you are incredible. I love the whole NRaas package and use a lot of them, so I google a lot about it too, and you show up on every site I read and literally always with helpful comments. That's amazing.

I've played in Beach City and had exactly the same problem with the elixir store clerk (and several others) going round in circles at the beach. They'd get in the boat, do a circle, get back out onto the beach, rinse and repeat....I believe that means that's something wrong with the boat routing, possibly the water isn't deep enough or something? One suggestion I read on another forum was to place a tiny 'no visitors allowed' lot over the area where they got on the boat, that way sims would not try and route through that spot any more. I'm not sure how that would affect the world's routing though, I've believe some people have had problems with world routing after placing new lots in game rather than in CAW? I didn't get round to trying that solution as I got distracted by another game.

My temporary solution while I was playing that particular game was to keep an eye on the beach and then use MC to reset the role sim, hoping that the next time they spawned it was in a place where they wouldn't travel via the beach.

Ah yes, thanks. I will have to add unfortunately placed spawning points relative to the world lot's routing to that short list of reasons why Role Sims might never make it to work. I wonder if GoHere would help. But if the area around the beach and spawning point is that flawed, it might not.

Subways might be another way around that. I use a lot of subways and see Role Sims using them. I use this FAQ To Encourage Subway Use along with the Slower or Faster Subway Mod.

The subways would probably be good. EA's logic in the function to spawn Sims ensures they find that exact one spot that's in the middle of the most unroutable area they can find. I once had a custom world with a circle of routable terrain surrounded by unroutable terrain. Guess where the service Sims spawned? I recall rocking back and fourth while clutching my hair.

Since using subways, and I use a lot of them in any given world, there has been a very noticeable decrease in traffic and have very few routing problems. In most cases they can be placed right on a community lot if you can find room to place. Sometimes just removing a tree or a bench frees up enough space. And, I was very surprised how fast my sims go from point a to point b using the mod and settings I mentioned above.

Interesting. The current clerk finally found his way to the elixir store. For the next time I'll definitely try your suggestions. Thanks a lot!
