Aging children and teens reset before new trait can be chosen

Post by Kayleena » January 9th, 2016, 5:53 pm

So this has -always- happened to my sims when they age up. Children and teens reset before I can choose their new traits. I have the More Traits mod by bluegenjutsu that allows your adults to have 10 genes. I know it works in correlation with MC, but it's never fully worked for me.

When babies are born I am able to choose 4 traits without issue. Once the toddlers age up into children/children into teens they reset after I click the button to choose their traits. This never really bothered me much since I could just use MC to force traits. But for once I'd actually like this to work the way it was meant to.

The sims don't reset as if I selected Reset Sim; they just stay where they were and Overwatch gives me a notification of a script error on that sim. I've got a screenshot: http://puu.sh/mpMCk/3be11b7de1.png

Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm just hoping that maybe the error is being caused by me not choosing the correct option in my MC settings.

In order to be helpful, I'm afraid we would actually have to see the script error itself, not just the notification that it has happened. It should be logged a minute or so later in your game folder. Could you zip up some samples and upload them to us? Also any from ErrorTrap, if you have that in play?

Ah wait a minute, never mind that. From bluegen's page where the mod is hosted:
There is an age up problem when adding new traits, but that is only for sims that gain new traits when they age up and all that will happen to them, is that you can't give them birthday parties. They reset during age up and the party gets reset with it and will stop being a party anymore and their wish for a birthday party won't be fulfilled. The sim will be fine though. It's best to just give extra traits to young adults and older only, if you want to be able to give birthday parties.

And from the discussion board, a player suggests this:
A simple way to fix the problem on aging up is with testingcheats on is to shift-click on them and take off the extra traits to the normal amount and then let the child grow up once they do you can add in the traits you want them to have, and no reset problem.

Or I supposed you could use MC instead of testngcheats to remove the extra traits before their birthday.

Ah, so I just have to do it the way I have been doing it. That's slightly unfortunate, but it's also good to know that this error is normal. I wonder if the mod can be updated to fix this?

I have the bakery oven and had my sim make one of her children a birthday cake. After he blew out the candles and reset, the cake wasn't able to be interacted with. The only option that came up was Debug Enabler if I was correct. So I just 'sold' it in Buy Mode.

Do you know of a mod out there that allows more traits but doesn't throw these errors after a sim ages up?

What I do is just push the extra traits on sims using MC and don't bother with an additional mod. The "extra" traits get dropped when they travel though, and I as well have problems when it's time for them to age up and have to remove the extras in time. So that's not what you are looking for.

You could use Retuner to adjust the number of traits for each age stage.
<a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Members'+Re ... ettings</a>
(do a page search, usually ctrl +F, for "traits")

The problem I have with that strategy is that if you set the number of allowable traits for let's say babies to 7, then all babies in town will pick up 7 traits and that's not what I would want. But would this work for you?

Others may come along with additional suggestions. If you need any and none are forthcoming after a day or two, you could repost the question in Chatterbox. Nothing wrong with being back here on the Overwatch board, but it doesn't get as much viewership and unfortunately we have no way of moving threads around here.

I think the Retuner option will work just fine for me! Especially since the more traits mod already gives all the sims in town the extra traits as well.

Thanks for the help! I wasn't sure where to post this, but since the error came from Overwatch I just defaulted with that.

No, you started this out in the right place. Very often conversations take a different than expected turn and it hurts that we can't just move them. Sitting here for three days waiting for maybe one more member to read this thread would have been painful as well.

And you're welcome. Do post back, if you could, if the Retuner method turns out to work for you or doesn't and you need further guidance. :)

Could you upload the error so I can see where the problem is exactly?
