No Meteor or Lightning Ground Strikes in OL w/Overwatch Installed

Post by LeeAlee » August 6th, 2017, 1:06 am

I've been playing a 'Into the Future' game for 4+ sim-weeks (1-2 weeks in the Dystopian Future). I didn't have any meteor or lightning ground strikes so I started doing some research, but I couldn't find any discussions about not having any. I found many discussions where players were experiencing meteor strikes 'bleeding' into the other future timelines and into their home worlds, and I did see that that was fixed in an earlier Overwatch update.

I removed all of my mods and started a fresh game - meteors and lightning in Oasis Landing functioned as EA intended.

Then I started adding mods back into my game in small bundles (mostly by creator + a misc. mods folder). All went well.
Because I use many NRaas mods, I broke them down into smaller bundles. Nothing I added prevented the dystopian world from functioning properly, until I added Overwatch. With Overwatch installed, there were no meteor or lightning ground strikes.
My final test was to remove all mods except Overwatch, still no hellfire and damnation in Oasis Landing.
During the mods testing I always used Save As and exited the game and cleared the Cache files before introducing the next bundle of mods.

It seems the lack of meteor strikes is an uncommon issue.

Odd, I don't see anything that would cause this besides the bleed fix which looks correct. It's something I'd have to debug in game. Noted.

Thank you for noting it Chain. I had a lot of ground strikes after removing Overwatch and they all run the same in Dystopian Oasis Landing as far as game speed. If the game is running at 2x or 3x speed, when a strike is about to happen, the game automatically switches to 1x speed. The screen shakes, lightning flashes and mayhem follows. That has nothing to do with much, but EA made strikes very predictable. It does the same no matter where in OL the strike is about to happen. As soon as I tire of this, I'll put Overwatch back in my mods folder.

I'm also experiencing this issue with Overwatch. I did some testing in a new TS3 folder with only MC, DE, and Retuner installed. I used Retuner to set the chance for the meteor shower to target my active household to 95% so it would be easier to tell if meteor showers were occurring. I also increased the chance of a meteor shower to 60%. I'm using OW v.123a.

Without Overwatch: On arrival to dystopian OL the meteors start right away and continue as I play. Once I save, quit, and reload they continue to occur again unless I have my sim raise the defense grid.

With Overwatch: On arriving to dystopian OL for the first time in a save, the meteors start right away. But, once I save, quit, and reload they don't continue. (No lightening strikes either.) For the remainder of the trip (and for all future trips to dystopian OL in that save) there are no meteor showers.

I found a temporary work around when Overwatch is installed: I discovered that if my sim raises the defense grid that the meteors will start up again once the defense grid times out. To do this I'll give my sim either the "Mightier than Meteors" opportunity via MC or the "RecalibrateDefenseGrid" opportunity via DE (using DE is more reliable). After turning in the gems and metals to the Stellar Observatory the defense grid will prevent meteor showers for 24 hrs. Once the 24 hrs is up the meteor showers start up again (even with OW installed).

Since I don't want to wait 24 hrs I set Retuner>General>Settings>By Tunable XML>Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.Miscellaneous>MeteorShower>kMeteorShowerDisabledIntervalTime to 60 minutes. This changes the defense grid protection time to an hour so the meteor showers start up sooner. There is a 24 hr "Shielded" moodlet which the sim gets from completing the opportunity, but that appears to only be a timer; it doesn't affect when the meteors start up again. I have to repeat this work around every time I load up a save in dystopian OL with Overwatch installed. The work around is only effective for the rest of the play session. Once I save, quit, and reload I have to repeat the opportunity to get meteor showers working again.

Removing OW: After I confirmed that OW prevented meteors on loading up a save in dystopian OL, I saved, quit, uninstalled OW, cleared the script cache, then reloaded the game. I didn't see any meteor showers while I played. I played for about a day in-game; that may not have been long enough. Eventually I gave my sim the opportunity to recalibrate the defense grid and the meteors started up again after the defense grid protection expired. After saving, quitting, and reloading the meteors occurred as normal (with OW still uninstalled). I didn't have to repeat the work around above again.

Recalibrating the Defense Grid with or without OL installed: This option appears on the Stellar Observatory. It was available for my sim on first arrival to OL. Selecting this option will give my sim the "Mightier than Meteors" opportunity (but I haven't been using this option). However, after saving, quitting, and reloading this option is greyed out with a tooltip that reads: "The defense grid is enabled, we are safe...for now." Which isn't the case since the meteor showers still strike (assuming OW is not installed). I think this is an EA bug since it occurs in my game without any mods installed. This is why I use MC or DE to give my sim the opportunity in my work around above; the option on the Stellar Observatory usually isn't available.

Turn on overwatch logging, save, quit and reload a dystopian OL with OW installed. Upload the resulting log.

Thanks. Hmm, don't see the code I thought that was doing it running there. I recall when I tried to reproduce this prior I couldn't. I'll give it another go when I have a moment.
