Possible Overwatch Problem?

Post by yuk75 » June 4th, 2017, 4:41 am

So my kids can't "meet new friends" at school, and when they have "talk to friends" on they are not gaining relationships with them. There's no errors.

I googled around and it seems people are attributing this to Overwatch, since removing it adds back the meet new peeps option. I reset my town as advised in one of those discussions and ONE child in the family now has the meet new friends option back, but the others don't. That child is still not gaining relationships with other students either. I don't think anyone complaining has noticed that relationships are not being added to.

How can I go about troubleshooting this?

I'm certainly not experiencing the failure of either tone. The only hit I can get from googling the issue is a discussion at Carl's from over four years ago. Overwatch has had many updates since then, assuming you are on the current version v122. If you are on this version, have you now verified that removing the mod makes both tones work for you again as well?

Sorry if this is obvious, but there do need to be other children (or teens) going to the school whom your sim does not yet know in order for the Meet New Friends tone to appear and then to actually do anything. Or rather, once a player gets the message "There are no more sims to meet here" (or something like that) the tone should disappear from that point forward.

Hmm it's weird.

I will try tomorrow without overwatch. I found about 3 topics specifically listing Overwatch, most from 2013 yeah.

I also discovered this time playing through a corruption in the sim database and all my relationships were gone (big red box in relationship panel). The corruption happened because of NRAAS mods interacting with imaginary friends....it allows you to invite other sims imaginary friends to parties, etc and that does something weird...it forces them to become real sims who don't know they're not real sims (making them active reveals the "turn into sim" thing), they're visible but with the white ball above them, and to make matters worse the doll they come from remains in the inventory but is renamed to "<sim name>'s toy" or something like it. As I am playing a legacy world my family is quite huge and I like to invite them all to birthdays....and sometimes that results in accidentally misidentifying imaginary friends and real sims. The interesting part is all 3 offending imaginary friends had NEVER been placed on the floor, so why would there be a sim of them already?

I had to force kill the imaginary friend sims, AND delete their tombstones before it worked again....and it was a huge hassle resulting in having to reset the whole town twice and then quit and restart because I was stuck in the inventory/panel of one of them and couldn't switch even though I could control the other sims. I installed the panel and relationship panel mods to help deal with it....and I think perhaps one or both misbehaved or the corruption to the DB was too much.

Anyway it should be noted, when re-introducing self to family (because every relationship outside my household was gone for every sim in it) it did not give the base relationship it should have as set by NRAAS. I assume this might have something to do with the fact that they'd already met, but since they had to use "friendly introduction" I expected it to reroll it?

Did the dolls in question belong to child age Sims? When they become children a Sim version of the doll is generated whether the doll has been placed on the floor or not. It sounds like MasterController needs a block to prevent that meltdown down though. I'll look into it.

Yep they were children...and some of them were young adults/teens/adults (there were 5 and it pretty much covered everything.....except that the "dolls" were children or teens, none were adults..). Also note that the stuck aging check works on dolls even when they have not been placed. I think this is important but I think it should perhaps only look at them when they are walking around in case it causes another issue. Also you might want to check how Dresser handles them lol.

I removed overwatch and it didn't seem to change anything...so perhaps somehow they have met all the teens. I did notice relationship slightly increasing though. I cannot say for sure if anything could be conflicting with that. It will take me a few days to get to the point where my sim has a child I can test with (or actually I might use NRAAS to switch active family and spawn a child in and see how that goes, would be easier).

I think overwatch/dresser/something else is causing more issues with imaginary friends. I'm getting serious lag in this world I am playing, like last time we had imaginary friend issues and I can't find the culprits but there's a HUGE amount of imaginary friends in the list of sims in the homeworld. They're all kid sized as well.
