Manual Blacklisting Question: I don't have the scripterror file

Post by igazor » February 24th, 2019, 9:19 am

It's not a prank, it's that malformed CC has the capacity to ruin the database of CAS Parts that the game uses. We prefer to think that such things are attached to downloaded content by accident or that the content provider also has this issue but doesn't yet realize it.

The better strategy is to purge the offending CAS parts entirely however that must be done, not attempt to blacklist them.

It's my work days now, so it'll take a couple of days for me to reply. I am still digging through the CC. So far I have concluded the rogue CC must've attatched itself to one of the recent sims3pack files I've downloaded, CCMagic doesn't help much & my Sims 3 Launcher keeps crashing whenever I click on Installed Content so it'll take longer than it should be. But wait, the whole reason I chose to blacklist them is because if it is attatched itself to a CC I really want to use, then I don't have to deal with it. So you are proposing that if I want to keep using this specific sims3pack I have to cope with this rogue CC in my game forever? How am I supposed to know that a sims3pack are "clean" then? What mod do you use to explore them before you install the CC into your game?

I would recommend not using sims3packs that have rogue/unwanted CC attached to them. Not coping with keeping the bad CC in-game. Some of this stuff distorts our sims and causes other issues when applied to ages and genders they aren't intended for.

The tool most of us use to inspect sims3packs prior to using them to see what you are really getting and clean them if necessary would be Custard. It's a one sims3pack at a time kind of process.

Sorry to be blunt, but if CC is going to act up that way and if for some reason it cannot be cleaned, then it should not be used.

Manual Blacklisting Question: I don't have the scripterror file

Wow, it's been well over a week.
Just dropping a quickie here so you know I'm still on the case. Work kept me a tad bit too busy so I haven't looked into it. That custard tools looks like it could help me in the future so I'll grab it now. I'll go through the crincrit link again just to refresh my mmoey. I get what you're saying. I personally wouldn't tolerate these sneaky CCs in other games either, so I'm not going to start now. But for a long while, EasyCASPEditor help me deal with them. Since that is no longer an option to me, Hopefully I can still remember my sortings & nip it at the bud.

Manual Blacklisting Question: I don't have the scripterror file

Post by Lonerbum » May 29th, 2019, 9:34 pm

Wow I'm sooo late!

I was trying the Custard, it can't seem to find the problematic rogue cc at all. But I got so annoyed by CCMagic I finally deleted it for making my search even slower. I even tried a CC that I knew that actually sneaked in a rogue CC, it can't even find the thing I knew to be there. And is there a way to make the PC sort their files the default way? You know, the "Sort by date downloaded" thing? It seems to stuck sorting itself alphabetically which isn't really helping.

As for whether or not should I use a CC for having a rogue CC. That's a bit iffy not ain't it? I downloaded a CC for something & it gave me something that I didn't want. At least I should be able to try to get rid of the rogue CC first. It's not like the concept of a rogue CC was revealed to me when I started playing this game. At least now if I know there's a way to deal with it, I can help people who doesn't.

I guess it depends on exactly how you are looking at files that aren't sorting as expected. Most if not all modern operating systems have a Detail View available where we can sort the files displayed on the fly by clicking on the column headings. Maybe this isn't what you meant?

I don't know how else to be helpful on the Bad CC issue. You of course have the right to use CC that may or may not contain rogue items that may or may not reveal themselves within Custard as you see fit, but you are then on your own as to how to deal with the resulting mess that can make of the game. Again, best practices dictate not using such content or allowing it into our games in the first place, however we manage to accomplish that.

Manual Blacklisting Question: I don't have the scripterror file

Post by Lonerbum » September 11th, 2020, 6:34 pm

Guessed you can delete this post or whatever igazor, just here to post as a record.

So a quick summary of why I just reply now. So I took the long way of breaking open sims3pack & package files 1 by 1, I tuend off Validforrandom 1 by 1. Then my PC got a blue screen, got it fixed, reinstalled Sims 3, realized my back up of the game isnt complete, scour the internet to retrieve all the files, start the process all over again. I just got up after falling asleep doing it. I found the rouge CC now. It's a sims3pack which snuck itself inside a winrar archive I downloaded for another mod from tumblr for a sim I wanted to use.

Well, thank you for your patience igazor. Now I'm trying to fix the pop up saying I have mods from a different version of the game, I've already updated the nraas files so I'm gonna go back combing the files again.

Manual Blacklisting Question: I don't have the scripterror file

You're welcome, but I wasn't actually being very patient. That was your perception of my reactions, it's all an illusion. Basically what I was saying was get that garbage out of your game as it sounds like it's ruining everything, or okay keep it but stop complaining, and leave us alone already (or something like that). It just comes across as a bit more professional sounding than that. :)

This is not a new concept and it's not specific to TS3 or any games. User downloads "free" program that does fun, naughty, helpful, whatever things or maybe provides them with pirated music/movie files or something. But it includes a trojan horse that makes their web browser open up all hours of the day and night with far too many windows/tabs and tries to sell them things they don't want or steal their identity. We can fix the browser malware, but if we don't get rid of the fun "free" program then it's just going to keep coming back. User wants the fun program anyway and keeps messing up their machine to keep it. Igazor says good luck with that, but if you're on a computer network that I manage then you are going to lose your user rights, and if I am helping because I am a friend or related to you then you can stop inviting me over to fix this because it can't be fixed. It's your computer, and your call.

The difference of course is that rogue CC is not really intended to be malicious like malware is and usually it can be fixed after a lot of effort to track it down, but the underlying concept has some similarities. Sorry for the lecture mode, I'll stop now.

Is that the core version mismatch error that displays on startup? I can save you some time here, that only applies to Core Mods, and there are only five of them in common usage. All but one have a specific variant/version for Patch 1.69. Other types of mods and content cannot trigger this warning as they don't know or care about core version numbers.

NRaas ErrorTrap
NRaas UnstranslatedKey (there is no 1.69 version)
CmarNYC's XCAS
Consort's 2X Weight/Fitness
AwesomeMod (current version auto-detects 1.69 and reacts accordingly)

There was also gamefreak130's World Loading Screen Overhaul, but he recently redid that one as v2.0 so that the current version is no longer a Core Mod.

Manual Blacklisting Question: I don't have the scripterror file

Post by Lonerbum » September 11th, 2020, 10:16 pm

I know you're not trying to be professional, I just want to thank you for taking your time any way. I don't mind you lecturing me, I didn't spend that much time with the sims community so I don't know a lot of things I'm sure you & a lot of people considers to be trivial. I know I'm being stubborn, but it's because I feel it is something I should know so I can prevent future problems & that also means you won't have to deal with me anymore.

And yes, it is the error that appears on startup. Based on your suggestions, then it looks like Errortrap might be the source as I do not have any of those other mods. But I'll check any way in case it's also from other mods.

The current version of ErrorTrap is v100, but there are three variants available on the download page. One is for Origin/Patch 1.69, one is for Steam/1.67, and one is for EveryoneElse/1.67.
