Selector Script Errors

Post by loveshobbits » January 3rd, 2019, 8:23 am

Hi everyone,
My first time posting here and I feel a little lost, but here goes. I'm trying to age up a child with the birthday cake. Everything seems to be going well; Bryce blows out the candles, celebrates his birthday a bit, then wanders off to do something else, A Selector Script Error is generated and another every time I click on him after.

I quit the game and deleted Cache files, started it again on the last save, Reset Everything and the same thing happens. So I used MC to reset the sim, and he turns into a game generated sim.

I have zipped the Selector Script Error and will try to upload it here.

Thanks as always!

Selector Script Errors

Post by igazor » January 3rd, 2019, 10:00 am

Hi there. The procedure to provide script errors is now to drag the unzipped xml file(s) into a message board post or response. If an MC Reset changes a sim that much, chances are they are corrupt but let's see what Selector has to say if we could first. In the meantime, possibly they have a corrupt outfit or CAS part; have you tried changing all of their outfits first? Chances are they are going to change with the impending age-up anyway. Another common issue with age-ups is that the sim has "too many" traits, more than they have slots allowed for them, and the excess ones need to be removed before attempting.

Hi igazor, thanks for the quick response. I just tried changing out his CAS items; no luck. According to the latest script error generated he has 3 traits, which is the norm for a child, I believe. Here's the Script Error:

All I see on my end is an empty box. If you cannot get the message editor to accept unzipped xml files, then please zip them together as you were going to do, upload them to a third party file host, and provide a link so we can take a look.

Sorry igazor, I am practically computer illiterate. I know how to do the things I want to do and very little else but luckily my daughter was willing to help me. Hope this works: https://drive.google.com/open?id=18Aiip ... MBSw8s2NdY

System.NullReferenceException: A null value was found where an object instance was required.
#0: 0x0000a callvirt in Sims3.Gameplay.CAS.Sims3.Gameplay.CAS.SimDescription:Init (Sims3.SimIFace.CAS.SimOutfit) (917312A8 [00000000] )

Bryce still has a "bad" or corrupt outfit assigned. It may not be a usual or easily reachable one like Everyday or Sleepwear, it could be a Career (though probably not for a child) or one in the Special category, like a costume or an outfit children wear when playing let's pretend games.

Instead of an MC Reset, you might try DebugEnabler's Fix Invisible Sims (even though we know the child is not technically invisible). That may give you the same result as MC though if the corrupt outfit is causing that much trouble.

We'll have to see if Chain or anyone else here has any other suggestions. As a very last resort (run a Save As on the game first so you can revert!) you could bring the sim into CAS using MC and "make him" a teen, but that has a tendency to corrupt sims further without a proper age-up happening.

Selector Script Errors

I've had a handful of sims suffer this issue over the years, but I've never had Selector installed and so have never gotten any script errors. Every time I think I've stumbled on a 'solution' the solution doesn't work with the next sim that won't age up. I don't know if that means it's all very random or whether sometimes I've fixed the corruption and other times not. Once, just reloading the game over and over and trying the age transition again and again worked. That took a long time and it's not a suggestion I'm making. I have tried igazor's suggestion to use DE to Fix Invisible Sims before. Usually after the age transition fails the first time. I don't recall whether I've ever tried it before attempting the problematic age transition. But it did appear to be successful at least once. I definitely would try that, and will myself the next time I run into this.

I would also try creating all new outfits for the clothing categories you can reach in Stylist. (Do this before the age transition. I hope you have a save from before you tried aging the sim up.) I don't mean just changing the existing outfits, but add a 2nd outfit in each category with different parts (I even change the hairstyle). Then use MC>Basic>Remove Outfit to get rid of the original outfits, then try the age transition. [Note that this won't help if the corrupt outfit is a special category.] This was the first 'solution' I thought I found which seemed to work, but later didn't work on another sim with the same issue so maybe in that later case the corruption was a Special outfit as igazor suggests.

As a last, last, resort I've reloaded the game before the failed age transition, taken the sim into MC>Stylist and saved the sim to the sim bin. Then in Edit Town's CAS I've recreated the sim with a slightly different name (so I can tell the difference) and merged the sim into the household. This requires a temporary parent if the sim is a child which I use MC>Advanced>Total Annihilation to remove later. Once merged to the household I use MC to give the recreated sim from CAS all the skills, hidden traits, hidden skills (incl. toddler and child), relationships (friendships and family connections), school performance, etc. as the original sim. Then I transfer over all inventory (except homework), and TA the corrupt sim. Save As, and try the age transition again. I've never had a problem with new CAS sim aging up. Finally I rename the sim back to the original name, Save As again, and carry on. This is much easier to do with a toddler than with a teen, but so far has worked repeatedly for me as you would expect since the sim is brand new from CAS.

I've tried igazor's last suggestion to age up the sim in CAS once. In that case a child sim wouldn't age to teen and in desperation I aged him up in CAS. But that aging in CAS didn't remove child-aged costume chest outfits that were in the Special outfit category. One day as a teen he decided to wear one of those outfits. It was not pretty. (He also had the exact same aging problem when I attempted to age him to YA.) That was the first time I recreated a sim in CAS to deal with this type of corruption. If the sim doesn't have any Special outfits (which I can usually see with MC>Basic>Outfit) then age transitioning in CAS might be ok. There's no way to remove age-inappropriate Special outfits outside of a proper in-game age transition so I usually opt to recreate the sim in CAS instead of aging the sim in CAS.

Thank you igazor and TreyNutz, I usually have 5 previous saves, so going back to an earlier save is no problem, especially as I opened the game on the morning of his birthday. I will first try the DE fix invisible sims as your method TreyNutz is rather involved. :oP

By the way, I had changed out all his outfits but that didn't help. Hadn't done his hair though. I'll let you know how it goes.

DE Fix Invisible Sims did nothing when done through the computer, and changed him completely when done through him. I checked his outfits with MC and I changed every one of them completely, well, except for the naked and singed outfit, makes no difference.

I've had this happen a couple of times before and while one of the sims died of old age, I had to age him up in MC until he was an adult. The second sim changed into a generic sim when I aged her up in MC, and I ended up deleting her.

If you do an Edit in CAS on an existing Sim, you can overwrite them with another Sim from the bin.

What if you save the problem Sim to the bin, quit the game, use S3pe to remove all the SIMO resources (which are the outfits) from the .sim file, then use Edit in CAS to overwrite the problem Sim with the altered copy from the bin?
