Save Cleaner or other options

Post by Kayleena » February 27th, 2016, 1:59 pm

So I've known for a while that my favorite family that I love to micromanage is corrupted. Most likely due to user error. Oops.

Anywho, I'm trying to figure out how I can save my current game from just being tossed in the trash. It became real laggy at a steady pace. Now when I zoom out to see the whole town it freezes to the point where I have to forcefully exit the game. If, before doing that, I click too much, it will simply crash. And now, most times than not, it will crash within a few minutes of playing, or not even.

I'd like to try every possible thing I can think of to save this current game before tossing it in my trash.

A few notes that may or may not matter:
-This family is well into it's third generation, with the fourth ready to live on their own (with everyone alive)
-I'm controlling the two sims that started it all and everything else after that - they had 4 children whom I married off, and two of those four have 3? kids, one with 5? kids, and one with 3? I don't exactly remember; they spread like zombies until I had to use SP to stop them from having more kids. I was basically playing the grandchildren of the original sims when the game started to get funky and laggy
-I switch households to the other members to micromanage them and make sure they're not doing crazy things, and fill their houses up with more than just the basics
-They're in a custom world called Dronningslund with townies I downloaded from Tumblr and placed myself (All of these townies came with game content, no CC)
-I'm guilty of throwing horrendous looking townies into CAS and giving them new clothes (I try to stay with original content except makeup, hair, and shoes, and I rarely use accessories)
^I do this with NPCs as well
-I'm constantly using MC to change people's jobs and job statuses, skills, traits, favorites, and literally everything else

Part of me is thinking that the family itself is corrupt. I had moved them from their original world in a different save to Dronningslund in a new save. But maybe they were corrupted from the beginning. If I can just save the family rather than the save game, I'll be happy. I don't mind starting anew so long as I have this family. I don't know why I'm so attached to them. -.-

Hi Kayleena .. sorry to hear your game is in trouble. I can not comment on your play style as we all play so differently. What I can suggest is to use Traveler to switch home towns. Take a look at the <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Traveler+FAQ">Traveler FAQ</a> Switching Home Towns. Or, if you have several families you want to keep in your current game perhaps using <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Porter">Porter</a> would better suit you. Try saving that one family in a test game using the Traveler method.
Sounds like your game might need some clean up. See <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Tips+For+Be ... ance">Tips For Better Game Performance</a> There are a lot of suggestions in there including links for tools like Save Cleaner and "must have mods".

I neglected a suggestion for switching households. Many of us in here rotate families and towns. <span class="membersnap">- <a class="userLink" href="http://www.wikispaces.com/user/view/igazor" style="outline: none;">Image</a> <a class="userLink" href="http://www.wikispaces.com/user/view/igazor" style="outline: none;">igazor</a></span> and <span class="membersnap">- <a class="userLink" href="http://www.wikispaces.com/user/view/Sarah_Sims" style="outline: none;"><img src="http://www.wikispaces.com/user/pic/Sarah_Sims-lg.jpg" width="16" height="16" alt="Sarah_Sims" class="userPicture" /></a> <a class="userLink" href="http://www.wikispaces.com/user/view/Sarah_Sims" style="outline: none;">Sarah_Sims</a></span> have shared their methods of rotational play. Well the first thing is trying to get the all done before the game freezes. If i have to zoom out to see the whole town I'll be waiting for it to crash as it will freeze, or I will have to forcefully exit.

The game definitely needs some clean up so I will definitely check out that link!

Oh dear!! Yes, definitely clean up as much as possible. Don't forget to check out the system tips in the last column. I should have asked you earlier .. are you on a desktop, laptop or MAC? There are a lot of tips on that page and they should bring you "some" relief. If you are still in trouble after a good clean up we might need to take a look at your system specs but from what you described in your original post it kind of looks like it's time to get out of Dodge :)

It does sound like Porter and "getting out of Dodge" may be the keys to success here, unless you have an old enough save in either world from before the issues became unworkable. But keep us posted, let us know if there's anything we can do to help along the way. :)

I'm sorry I haven't been here to give you guys an update. As of the moment I've yet to try anything to save this save because I haven't had time to.

brappl ; I'm on a desktop! I'll see when I can get to work on cleaning up my save and give you guys an update after that.

Just posting an update. I was playing an entirely new game (from vanilla and slowly adding content back into the game.) I had renamed the original Sims 3 file and put an 'a' at the end so that the game would generate a new folder.

So I decided to try and load the corrupted save, but first I followed most of the steps from here: http://measmusings.blogspot.com/2013/05 ... -your.html.
Tried to load the game and I got a message saying that I had a mod that was outdated for the current game. Clicked continue and it crashed just before going to the screen showing me my saves. So I took out only my mods, and it gave me the same message upon loading. I quit instead of continuing because that's a whole new game of taking out my entire Mods folder and moving things back in small increments just to find the mod thats throwing up that notification. I don't have the time for it today, unfortunately.

My game has literally not changed and I haven't added any mods to the game with the corrupted family. So why I'm getting that notification is a little confusing.

There is nothing harmful that I can see on that page of suggestions. Most if not all of them are sound (some won't really accomplish anything) and are pretty lightweight as far as maintenance goes.

The only mods that will throw that version mismatch error are core mods, which for TS3 are relatively rare beasts. Here is the list of commonly in use core mods that we are aware of:

NRaas ErrorTrap
NRaas UntranslatedKey (really for developers)
AwesomeMod
CMarNYC's XCAS (full version), from MTS
Consort's Grow and Fitness mods, from MTS

That's really about it unless you have something custom made or that we don't know about in there. Script and Tuning mods and other forms of CC cannot throw that error.

Which patch level are you on and is that short list any help in narrowing things down?

I keep my core/script/tuning mods in their own separate folders inside my mods folder. So it looks more like Mods>Game Mods>[categories]. I removed the Game Mods which takes out everything. I haven't used AwesomeMod in years, and I don't have the two mods below it. I know I have ErrorTrap, but not the developer mod. So those were removed when I loaded the game back up and it threw the notification at me.
