You can manage these with SP as well (Household Options, or Caste Options on the Rotations caste), but I find it's easier to use Dream Catching switches when I want them retained (MC when set that way, for example) and non-Dream Catching switches when I don't. Everyone's experiences will vary, but I've never seen a problem with Dream Catching running on 3 or 4 households at once. I wouldn't want to do as many as 10 or light up the whole town that way. I did once when playing in Uni World by accident and it was a mess.

@littlelambsy: To clarify, Selector will automatically save wishes and opportunities by right clicking on a sim in Live Mode, as it's set to "True" by default. I find this the easiest method but I know some people find they right click on sims just to centre them on screen, so it may not be the best option for everybody.
For all the other mods mentioned in Retaining Dreams, the option needs to be turned on in the settings. You don't need to turn it on in all these mods. Just make sure, as Chain stated above, that you switch households using the same mod that you used to turn the option on in. So, for example, if you prefer to use MC to switch households, make sure the option in MC is set to save wishes and opportunities.
I don't think it's possible to add this function into a Rotational Caste in SP but it's not necessary anyway.

Oh! I have it running on about 10 households atm without noticing any problems so far. Doesn't it depend on your computer specs to a certain degree?
Also, can I clarify, if a sim doesn't have any locked wishes, there are no wishes to save, right? I've always believed that if the locked wishes panel is blank, even if I retain them, there's nothing there to retain anyway so no bloat occurs. Is that correct?

That's what I meant by everyone's experiences may vary. Not just on the strength of their system, but the size of the world they are playing and other sources of stress on the game engine.
As for SP, again I don't manage them this way but isn't that what NRaas > SP > Household Options > Retain Dreams and Opportunities is supposed to do or is that only if you use SP to switch households? (which got left off the list of switching mods above, btw).

Sarah; As too: Quote- "Also, can I clarify, if a sim doesn't have any locked wishes, there are no wishes to save, right? I've always believed that if the locked wishes panel is blank, even if I retain them, there's nothing there to retain anyway so no bloat occurs. Is that correct?"
Retaining Dream and Promises is not only to save the locked wishes on a particular Sim, but also running active a Dream Manager onto each Sim. You know where the system knows which dreams are fulfilled and which still in queue, so it's going up in the chain then rather restarting it. As far that I can remember, they (inactives) can fulfill their own Promises, if the dream manager is running on them.

The problem is you know where your actives are at, but if something occurs with one of the inactives Dream Manager and needs to reset them, you will have to reset it for all inactives.

Thanks all for the feedback. I generally do not save save dreams and opportunities and when I do I use only MC to do so. In reading through this thread another question comes to mind:
In the Dreamer FAQ
The title is:What do I need to do to allow inactives to retain or complete wishes
Descriptions in other sections refer to dreams and opportunities, i.e.
"If you enable it in MasterController you must use "NRaas \ Master Controller \ Make Active (Dream Catcher)" to switch if you want to retain the dreams and opportunities"
Wishes are different from opportunities...or am I missing something in the various descriptions?

Thanks everyone for explaining this and to brappl for asking it. I always switch households by right clicking on them. So if I throw a party or meeting and have a bunch of sims together, I'll often right click on many of them to direct them to grab food, coffee, etc then back to my sim. I guess I use "selector" and find this the easiest way of switching households. So according to Sarah I don't have to worry about it. It auto saves all their dreams and wishes.
