Script error in new game, possibly about ranked chess opponent?

Post by kimlupai » January 26th, 2016, 2:37 pm

I've just started a new game and got the script error I've just uploaded. Background in case it's useful. I portered this sim (Nikolas) and the 14 gravestones he had in his inventory from an old game into a new world. I was in map view, setting up the NRass options, when I clicked on his map tag, that generated the script error. When back on the lot, I could click on Nikolas and got his interaction menu no problem, but clicking on his phone generated the second error.

From what I've read in previous threads I think this is breaking because there aren't any other sims in the world for him to play in a ranked chess match?

I'm just wondering if this will have any impact on my plans for this game? I'm going to add another sim (Dee) to the household, then use MC to kill off Nikolas so I've got his ghost. Later on Dee will resurrect all 15 ghosts (hopefully). Will the lack of chess opponents cause any corruption when he is a ghost? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I wasn't planning on adding any other sims to the world.

Thank you.

I do remember reports about this and the issue being that the game expects there to be at least one other chess playing sim present in the world. I don't remember what the exact solution is if you must have an instantiated population of one. Hopefully someone else replies shortly to remind us.

But in the meantime, must this sim have a chess playing (hidden) skill of 6? I suspect that with much lower to no skill there (so maybe 0) the game might not be as interested in finding them a ranked opponent every time you click on them. The hidden skills are reachable with MC Cheats.

Yes, the chess system gets unhappy if there's no one else in the world besides your Sim. As like much of EA's code, it just assumes.

Oh bother EA, that means I'll have to add a couple of sims to town. Oh well, at least it's an easy fix. Thank you Chain. Out of interest, do service and role sims count as chess players if they are actually in the town? I got this error immediately upon starting the game when, I'm guessing, the role & service sims hadn't made it into the world. If I give them time to appear would that fix things or does the chess system require resident sims?

igazor, I haven't a clue about Nikolas' hidden chess playing skill level, I'll have to check tomorrow. I know he did play chess a lot as he got to level 5 or 6 logic playing chess. If this could be causing the issue and because he's one of my sims, I now suspect that he deliberately got the level high enough to cause a problem. My sims love to make my life 'interesting'. They're sentient I tell you. :D

If you have StoryProgression (really need to get more stuff out of this bloated monster) set to move role Sims to the service household then they are off limits. Otherwise they can be role Sims (just not WA merchants, that was the last time EA ever touched this code heh) but not service Sims.

His hidden chess skill level is 6, that's what the log states anyway. Although there might not be much for the single resident of an entire world to do if you haven't given him plenty of other toys to play with and broken plumbing to fix so not sure we should blame him. :)

I don't touch the setting in SP for moving role sims into the service household (I think it's true by default?) so I'll move a couple of sims into the town. Thank you for the explanation.

I didn't think to look at the log for his hidden chess skill and I know they list skills. D'oh! With the challenge I was playing originally, money was no object so there were plenty of things for him to do and (in the beginning) loads of other sims to interact with. But he's an unstable, inappropriate, genius, who loves making my life complicated, so he played chess..... a lot. :) In this new game money will be tight but they do have most of the same toys in the house (love freerealestate). Thing is he's going to become a ghost next time I go into the game and I just know that when he comes out to haunt he'll choose to play chess some more, just because he'll be able too.
